INTAKE DATE: 21-Sept-2026
A Volunteer Writes: “When I first go to take Lemon Ginger out of her crate she is huddled in the back. With a few dropped treats she moves shyly toward me. As we spend more time together, I see this is how she moves through the world in general: a little unsure, head tilting up, some nervousness in her eyes.

But sitting with her on a bench, after I have shown myself to be a good, safe place, a new side of Lemon Ginger emerges: she begins to lean her body toward me, resting her chin on my leg and as I remind her with gentle touch and a quiet voice that she is safe, she starts to melt into me and seeks more touch.

Her soft, small brown and white body is riddled with scars, from her head to her tail. Her fears and distrust are surely founded but I dream of the day when her scars are just a story of long ago, when she finds a home so consistently gentle and loving that she walks through the world with her head held high, knowing she is adored and safe.

Lemon Ginger #266131 is approximately 6 years old and 43 lbs. She came to us as a stray at the end of September.

THE VOLUNTEERS MADE A REEL FOR THIS ADORABLE GIRL. Please take a moment to watch. If you are an experienced foster or adopter who would like to make her part of your family, MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance.

A STAFF MEMBER WRITES:
Meet Lemon Ginger! Lemon Ginger is a sweet girl who is still finding her footing in a world full of new sights, sounds and experiences. Found as a stray, she’s ready for a fresh start with someone who will let her settle in at her own pace. She’s shown us that she has a curious side, too, happily sniffing around and approaching people when she feels ready. This lovely girl may need a little time to warm up, but she’s worth the wait!

My Ideal Home
Lemon Ginger would love a peaceful home where she can get comfortable without feeling rushed. Her ideal person will be patient and gentle, letting her take the lead as she explores her new surroundings and builds trust. Daily walks, food puzzles, long lasting chews, and fun scent games will give her enjoyable ways to explore and stay engaged. Most importantly, she’ll need someone who celebrates the little victories and understands that confidence grows one step at a time.

Good with Other Pets?
Lemon Ginger’s history with other dogs is unknown, but she’s shown that she can approach another dog for a brief sniff before choosing to move away and take some space. She has been thoughtful about these interactions, so any future introductions should be slow and relaxed, with plenty of room for her to step away when she needs a break.

Good with Kids?
Lemon Ginger’s history with children is unknown. Since new experiences can feel overwhelming for her, calm and respectful introductions will be important, and she’ll appreciate having a quiet space where she can retreat whenever she needs some down time.

Things to Know
Lemon Ginger can feel nervous in unfamiliar situations and may need some encouragement before she’s ready to explore. Once she’s more comfortable, she has shown that she can approach people, accept touch, and follow along with her handler. Letting her choose when to interact, moving at her pace, and pairing new experiences with tasty treats will help her feel more secure. With a little patience and a loving home, Lemon Ginger has ever chance to add a little sweetiness and zest to someone’s life!

OK Gang.
BONDED PAIR OF SENIOR MEN.
WE CAN DO THIS, I NEED 1 ROCK SOLID FAMILY TO SAY HELL YEAH.
I will provide dog food for their entire lives.
Please, they are gonna keep me up all night.

INTAKE DATE: 13-Oct-2026
*** Super sweet 12 year old Neutered pair of pitties, Grandpa and Apollo, need a home asap ***

The Manhattan shelter has put out a special plea for two senior boys who are in need of placement, preferably together. Grandpa (who is already at the shelter) and his sibling Apollo (arriving at the shelter 11/6) are losing the only home they have ever known due to eviction. Both of them were bred in the home by their owner. Both lived happily with children and cats.

We all know how bad it is at the NYC ACC right now with dogs lining the aisles, under desks, in overflow areas like garages. To be a senior pitty with a frosty face makes it even harder. Sadly, Grandpa is living in a pop up crate, and not getting any exposure at all.

He is such a good boy that he earned himself the highest behavior rating a pup can get – the coveted Level 1. He even fell asleep in the lobby during intake! Could anyone take this pair in?

Please message our page so we can move them both on to a loving retirement home asap before they get sick in the shelter.

Pop Up Promo! ACC is over capacity, so I'm currently living in a pop up crate. My adoption fee is waived, and my adoption comes with a $50 Chewy gift card.

A STAFF MEMBER WRITES:
Meet Grandpa! Grandpa is a mellow gentleman who believes life is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. After his owner could no longer care for him, this sweet senior is looking for a cozy home to spend his golden years. His former family says some of his favorite activities are sleeping, enjoying a tasty treat, and playing with tennis balls. But his most adorable quirk? The moment he hears ice cubes clinking into a cup, he'll come right over hoping to snag a few of his own! Grandpa is ready to bring his easygoing charm to a family who will treasure him.

My Ideal Home
Grandpa would love a comfortable home where he can enjoy plenty of rest, short strolls, and time with his favorite people. He's used to one or two short walks a day and walks beautifully on a loose leash without pulling. He knows Sit and Go to Your Bed, and he'd be perfectly happy spending much of the day snoozing nearby. If you're looking for a relaxed companion who appreciates the quieter side of life, Grandpa could be your perfect match.

Good with Other Pets?
Grandpa has lived with both cats and dogs in his previous home. He also showed no response to other dogs during his assessment at ACC. Slow, thoughtful introductions with any resident pets will help everyone settle in comfortably.

Good with Kids?
Grandpa's history with children is unknown. His calm, easygoing nature makes him a lovely senior to get to know, and gentle, respectful introductions will help everyone start off comfortably.

Things to Know
Grandpa is a true couch potato who enjoys a peaceful routine and accepts gentle handling without fuss. He's had occasional indoor accidents a few times a month, so keeping him on a consistent bathroom schedule will help him stay comfortable. His former family also mentioned that he can get into the trash, so keeping tempting goodies out of reach is a good idea. Grandpa may be an old soul, but he's got plenty of little joys left to share, especially if ice cubes and Beggin' Strips are involved. Could you be the one to give this sweet senior the cozy retirement he deserves?

He was taken on 5 – 10 minute walks, 1 or 2 times a day and never pulled on leash. He used to be crated but doesn’t need it now. Grandpa knows the cues for “sit” and “go to your bed.” Grandpa’s favorite activity is sleeping. He also loves Beggin’ Strips and Tennis balls. He was fed Beneful dry dog food.

His owner said their favorite thing about Grandpa is “He loves to eat ice cubes, whenever he hears you putting ice into a cup he comes over for a few cubes.”

INTAKE DATE: 12-Sept-2026
The Volunteers call him their “big, handsome meatball,” and we concur. Stocky, muscular, and very sweet, Spades has looks in “spades.” He also has a tongue that peeks out between his teeth and that signature attribute has us swooning. What amazes us most is that he has been sitting at the shelter over a month without a single nibble! How can this be? He has been non-reactive to other dogs, ignoring stimuli while on walks, checking in with his handlers, and being the perfect gentleman!

It doesn’t help the shelter has not sent out any notes for him, so all we have is his info block, an enrichment note, and his precious movie (see below). However, if you are an experienced foster or adopter who are interested in making him your new best friend, you can message our page for assistance getting all the info you need!

Please begin sharing this friendly, social, mush far and wide. It’s time that Spades found a family who will cherish him.

9/19/26 [assessment]: Spades is at the front of his kennel with a loose body, barking in a demanding way when handler approaches. He is leashed with a treat lure and willingly exits the kennel. He pulls slightly forward all the way out but shows no reaction toward neighboring dogs. When he gets in the elevator, Spades sits next to the handler and accepts treats (takes very hard). Once outside, Spades pulls toward the gates to get to the street. He sniffs his surroundings and relieves himself. Spades continues walking slightly ahead of the handler with mild to none leash tension. Spades has no reaction to other dogs or people passing by. He is responsive with handler and frequently looks back for check-ins. After the walk, Spades is taken to the Canine Behavior office for the assessment (see notes). During return, handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Spades back into the kennel with no issues.

I'm not a real Spiritual Person, but today at the very moment the Vet was administering the euthanasia, this bald Eagle kept circling directly above us.
David Waters had enough time to walk to his truck and grab his camera.
Fly with the Eagles , Stitch. I loved you when nobody else could.
He was stuffed in a duffel bag and thrown into a dumpster a few days before Christmas in NYC, yes he was broken, but I loved him for 6 plus years.
