A Big Welcome for Coco! 🐾🌼💕

Everyone, please join us in giving a warm welcome to one of the newest member of the Levy Veterinary family, the sweet and courageous Coco!

Coco was an absolute superstar during her appointment checkup with Dr. Levy. She showed us just how brave she can be, and she certainly earned a gold star (and plenty of her favorite treat—cheese! 🧀).

We are so happy to be part of Coco’s health journey. Welcome to the family, sweet girl! 🐶🩺🥼

This Memorial Day, the team at Levy Veterinary Hospital pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our nation’s armed forces. We are profoundly grateful for their selflessness and dedication to protecting our freedom.

In observance of the holiday, our office will be closed on Monday, May 25th. We will resume our normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26th.

She was such a brave girl throughout her checkup. We are already head-over-paws for this cutie!

Well, there is a very good reason that the American Heartworm Society triennial meeting is always held in New Orleans. Once again, we retain the notoriety as Heartworm Central.

Drum roll, please! The AHS has released their new heartworm incidence map and survey. The bad news? Heartworm disease is being diagnosed nationwide. The good news? Heartworm disease is PREVENTABLE. https://bit.ly/4c8QNj2

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month!

Is your pet protected? As the weather warms up, so does mosquito activity. In Louisiana, heartworm prevention isn't just a seasonal concern, it’s a year-round necessity. Indoor Pets aren't exempt: we all know how mosquitoes easily find their way into our homes through doors and windows.

Heartworm disease is a serious, life-threatening condition. There are many affordable prevention options, and it can be as simple as a once-yearly injection. Heartworm treatment, though, is costly and difficult for dogs (and for cats, there is currently no approved treatment at all!).

Did you know that March is National Peanut Month, and today is National Peanut Butter Lover's Day! 🥜🐾

Celebrating in style (pictured) is Rusty, one of the newest four-legged members of the Levy Veterinary Hospital team, owned by Kellyann.

Whether it’s a spoonful as a treat or cleaning out the jar lid, peanut butter is the undisputed heavyweight champion of dog snacks.

⚠️ A Quick Safety Note for Fellow Paw-rents:

While we’re celebrating, let's keep our pups safe! When picking out a jar for your furry friend, always check the ingredient label. * Look for: Real sugar or just plain peanuts.

• AVOID: Xylitol (often listed as "Birch Sugar"). It is a common sugar substitute in "low sugar" or "natural" peanut butters and is highly toxic to dogs.

Stick to the real stuff so your pup can keep on grinning! 🐶✨

Happy Halloween! Remember these tips to keep your pets safe for the holiday:
1. Keep Candy Out of Reach: Many sweets can be toxic to animals (especially chocolate and some sugar substitutes), so store them securely. If your pet eats something they shouldn't, call the Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661.
2. Check Costumes for Safety: Ensure any pet outfits are comfortable and don't restrict movement or breathing.
3. Watch the Front Door: With Trick-or-Treaters and other guests, make sure pets are in a secure, quiet room to prevent escapes or stress.
4. Make Sure Pet IDs Are Current: An updated ID tag and microchip can help reunite you if your pet gets lost.
5. Dispose of All Wrappers: Foil and cellophane can cause GI blockages if ingested by curious pets.
