Birdie did great during her introduction to gunfire! She held her sit at the shot, marked the bumper, then went straight out to retrieve it and right back. Great work, Birdie! 🐾

How long should a dog training session be? Often, less than 10 minutes is plenty. Keep it short, focused, and positive—then wrap up while your dog is still engaged. A few meaningful minutes practiced consistently can go a long way.

Charlie is 6 months old and has started his obedience training. He’ll be beginning retrieving work soon, too.

He’s from our March Scott × Roxy breeding and is available for discussion with the right home. We’re looking for a five-star home, preferably one that enjoys hunting and the outdoors. Message us to learn more about Charlie.

What sets CapeWest apart from other breeders? The fact that our promise doesn’t end when a puppy goes home. 🤎

Our contract states that if, for any reason, one of our dogs ever needs to be rehomed, CapeWest has the first right of refusal.

Our goal is to breed quality dogs—not fill shelters. We want our families to know that circumstances can change, they can always come back to us.

Today, we welcomed Charlie back to CapeWest. Charlie is a handsome yellow male from our March 2026 litter who was returned through no fault of his own. He has good house manners and is a good looking dog.

We’re not sure yet what God has in store for Charlie. Heath may train him up to become a started gun dog, or if the right family comes along before then, he may find the perfect second home.

For now, he’s right where he belongs.
