ā“Did you know: Dachshund translates from German as ā€œbadger dog.ā€ These short-legged, long-bodied pups were bred to hunt burrowing critters like badgers, foxes, and moles.

So while Rudy here looks like a dapper gentleman, we know he loves to chase birds! That’s just his natural prey drive at work! 🐦

Burrowing into blankets, digging in the yard, and chasing critters are all ways dachshunds may express their natural instincts. šŸ•³ļøšŸ¾

Want to give their prey drive a safe outlet? Try snuffle mats, puzzle feeders, scent games, or a designated digging spot.

Because sometimes the best way to manage an instinct is to give it a job!

Your pet’s wellness isn’t built around one appointment a year. It’s made up of layers of care that work together through every stage of life. 🐾

Some happen every day—providing balanced nutrition, staying active, and noticing changes in appetite, behavior, energy, or habits.

Others happen monthly—staying consistent with parasite prevention, checking body condition, and keeping an eye on the health of skin, ears, eyes, and paws.

Then there’s the routine care we provide together: regular wellness exams, vaccinations, recommended screening, dental care, and diagnostics or treatment when something needs a closer look. šŸ’™

The goal of preventive care isn’t simply to treat problems when they arise. It’s to understand what’s normal for your pet, recognize changes early, and make informed decisions about their health along the way.

🧠 Pets are good for our minds—and our bodies, too.

The human-animal bond is more than companionship. Research suggests that positive interactions with pets may reduce stress responses, including lowering stress hormones like cortisol, while potentially supporting healthier blood pressure and heart rate. šŸ’“

Pets can also encourage us to move more—whether that's a daily dog walk, a game of fetch, or simply getting up to care for our animals. Their companionship can ease loneliness and create opportunities for socialization with other pet lovers.

For those living with anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges, the routine, connection, and sense of purpose that come with caring for a pet can be meaningful pieces of a larger support system. šŸ’š

Of course, our pets aren't a substitute for professional mental health care. But the bond we share with them can be a powerful part of a healthy, connected life.

This World Mental Health Day, we're celebrating the pets who help us slow down, get moving, stay connected, and feel a little less alone. šŸ¾šŸ’™

šŸ–¤ Black cats deserve to be seen for who they are—not just the color of their coat.

October is , making this a great time to shine a little extra light on cats waiting for homes. Despite old superstitions, black cats are every bit as loving, playful, quirky, and individual as any other cat.

Just ask Goose here: He loves being his family’s shadow, and when he’s not doing that, you might find him luxuriating in the tub. 😹

And Goose is just one of millions of cats who remind us that there’s a personality behind every pair of eyes. In 2024, approximately 2.2 million cats were adopted from shelters across the U.S.—but there are still plenty of cats waiting to be chosen by their furever family.

If you’re thinking about adding a feline friend to your family, consider visiting your local shelter or rescue. You might find your perfect match hiding in plain sight. šŸˆā€ā¬›

Your pet may look happy, healthy, and perfectly themselves—but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something worth checking. 🐾

Wellness exams let our team check your pet’s overall health, catch subtle changes, and keep preventive care on track. They’re also a chance for pet parents to share what you’ve noticed at home, ask questions, and bring up anything that has you wondering or concerned.

As our pets get older, more frequent visits can help us stay ahead of their changing needs.

Because keeping a happy, healthy pet is about more than waiting until something seems wrong. It’s about working together to support their health at every stage of life. ā¤ļø

šŸ–¤It’s National Black Dog Day!🐾

Black dogs have sometimes spent longer waiting in shelters for their forever homes, but there’s encouraging news: that adoption gap is getting smaller.

According to the 2024 National Animal Shelter Report, black dogs spent about 50% longer in shelters than lighter-colored dogs in 2015. Today, that difference has dropped to around 15% in many regions. (https://www.startseeingblackdogs.com/2025-update/)

Still, every black dog waiting in a shelter deserves the chance to be noticed, loved, and known for who they are—not the color of their coat.

Thinking about adding a dog to your family? Consider giving a black dog a second look. You might meet your new best friend. šŸ–¤

And if you already have a black pup at home, let’s celebrate them! Share a photo in the comments and tell us their name—or the one thing that makes them completely them.šŸ¶šŸ–¤
