FIELD REPORT: HORSE YOGA DEPLOYMENT

Not that long ago, the Adventure Human was helping care for these horses, and naturally I appointed myself part of the barn staff. My responsibilities included stealing horse balls, inspecting feed buckets, lurking dramatically in the aisleway, and generally inserting myself into everyone’s business.

Now the herd is hosting yoga with horses involved, which feels suspiciously calm for my liking, but apparently humans enjoy things like “deep breathing” and “inner peace.” Personally, I believe in cardio and mild chaos.

Still — these are good humans, good horses, and a really cool event. So if you’ve been needing an excuse to stretch, decompress, and spend time around giant emotionally supportive prey animals consider this your sign.

I cannot promise I won’t attempt another equestrian ball heist if deployed onsite.

🚨 AGENTS OF C.H.A.O.S. — RED ALERT: PARVO 🚨

Listen up, Agents.

There is a CONFIRMED parvo alert in the Windham County, VT / Brattleboro area, which is uncomfortably close to the Monadnock region.
And because parvo spreads like a tiny plague goblin with a personal vendetta, we are treating this like a full tactical biohazard situation.

This virus spreads through:
☣️ Dogs
☣️ Humans
☣️ Shoes
☣️ Leashes
☣️ Crates
☣️ Floors
☣️ Tires
☣️ Shared spaces
☣️ Literally the environment itself

AND IT CAN LIVE THERE FOR MONTHS.
Sometimes YEARS.

So no, this is not the time for:
“he just has an upset tummy”
or
“my dog is friendly”
or
“one quick stop at the pet store won’t matter.”
Absolutely not, Susan. We ride at biosecurity.

🚨 HIGH RISK AGENTS:
• Puppies
• Under-vaccinated dogs
• Immunocompromised dogs
• Chaos goblins who lick everything they encounter

MISSION PROTOCOLS:
✔️ Verify vaccine status
✔️ Avoid unnecessary communal dog spaces
✔️ Skip shared bowls + high-traffic potty zones
✔️ Sanitize shoes, crates, bowls, leashes, gear, and surfaces
✔️ Monitor for:
— vomiting
— lethargy
— loss of appetite
— fever
— diarrhea (especially bloody diarrhea)
⚠️ If symptoms appear: CALL YOUR VET IMMEDIATELY.
Do not “wait and see.”

This is not the fun kind of chaos.
This is not about blaming facilities or panicking.
This is about protecting the pack, being smart, and not letting a microscopic gremlin body slam your dog’s immune system.

Stay alert.
Wash your paws.
(And by paws, we mean your shoes too, human.)

Protect the pack.
Contain the chaos.

Hot yoga, apparently.

The Adventure Human signed herself up to voluntarily marinate in a heated room this Saturday in support of the Monadnock Humane Society.

Bold strategy.
Personally, I prefer cardio that involves mud, poor decisions, and chasing things through the woods, but okay.

You should probably bring your humans too.
They need enrichment and emotional conditioning.

I’ll be supervising from a safe distance because voluntarily overheating indoors feels deeply unnatural, but helping shelter animals? That part slaps.

See you there, adventure humans. Hydrate accordingly. 🐾

By-Donation Community Class this Saturday! This month’s class will benefit 🐾
Monadnock Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization in Swanzey, New Hampshire. They operate an animal shelter and adoption center for cats, dogs, and other small animals, provide veterinary and wellness services such as spay/neuter clinics and vaccinations, and offer pet boarding, training, and grooming. They also support the community through animal cruelty investigations, lost-and-found services, and education programs that promote responsible pet ownership and strengthen the bond between people and animals.
Cara will teach this Saturday’s class! Please pre-register for class ahead of time. Donations accepted by cash, check, or Venmo. See you on Saturday 😎

Don’t rush it.
It looks like a simple moment.
It really isn’t.

If you have a really social dog, awesome. You’ll likely never have the dilemma or issues with these decisions.
But many more dogs need us to make careful decisions. We are the “gate keeper”.
What was their most recent experience?
Good, bad or you’re just uneasy because of a little niggling feeling.
That matters.

Perhaps you know that your dog’s energy changes after 5 minutes of playing and you’re very aware that energy can tip over into something else.
The fact you know that is brilliant!

We tend to focus on the obvious and what we see in that moment.
The eagerness.
The wagging tail.
The forward movement by one desperate to meet the other.
The “friendly” approach.
But that’s not all that we should notice and the more you look at the bigger picture, the easier it is to make decisions and those decisions matter.

Because once they’re in it, it’s much harder to change.

It’s ok to pause.
It’s ok to step away.
It’s ok to say no.

And yes
It’s absolutely ok to say yes too.

Over the next few weeks, Iow-flying helicopters and airplanes are dropping oral rabies vaccine bait blister packs across the state. This joint effort between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Vermont Department of Health aims to reduce rabies in racoons and skunks. The packs don't harm people or pets — but please, leave them for wildlife to get eaten! Learn more at HealthVermont.gov/Rabies.
