Platte Valley Retrievers Platte Valley Retrievers is a training kennel that specializes in gun dog and hunt test training The kennel is located at my home north of Kearney, NE.

As a dog lover and avid sportsmen I have spent my whole life around hunting retrievers. My early experience stems from the first Platte Valley Retrievers, a large kennel my parents operated throughout the 90's. They specialized in well bred retrievers including Labradors, Chesapeake's, and Golden's. My passion for working with these animals grew over time and now I am doing it professionally. The facilities are safe, clean, and about 30 yds from my house so the dogs are under constant supervision. I specialize in gun dog training and hunt test training. Basic gun dog training is a minimum of four months, maybe longer depending on the individual dog. By the end of the training program the retriever will be obedient to the command and to the whistle. They will retrieve marked birds up to 100 yds away and will deliver them to hand. They will also be able to pass a HRC Started Hunt Test. My fee is $650/month for a minimum 4 month training program.

The dogs went 10/12 in hunt tests this weekend. It was our new trainer Zayne’s first time handling dogs at a hunt test and he knocked it out of the park. Not only was it his first hunt test but it was also the first test ever for 5 of the 6 dogs that he ran, making it even more impressive.

Big thank you to Jason Miley and The Elkhorn Hunting Retriever club. And an even bigger thank you to Zayne Felker for such a great job.

Kia showing a great example of getting to the area of the fall and a short tight hunt on a difficult 100yd retrieve in moderate cover.

It finally cooled down enough that the dogs acted like their normal selves. This hot weather has been rough for everyone

Available for stud Platte Valleys Italian Stallion, call name Rocky. Rocky is an 85lb, hard charging retrieving machine. He has competed at the highest level of retriever competitions and has earned his Hunting Retriever Champion title. He’s a proven producer with 8 litters currently on the ground. He’s the best dog I have ever trained in over 10 years of professional retriever training. From day 1 he had natural desire and trainability. I have trained several of his puppies and they show the same traits as well. All of his pups have been around 75 lbs in size. He’s calm in the home and waterfowl blind but turns it on immediately when it’s time to to work. He is currently 8 years old so his stud career is coming to an end.

His pedigree is among the best there is. In the first 3 generations alone he has 9 Grand Hunting Retriever Champions and 4 Field Champions.

Miniature golden doodle, getting it done in gun dog training. If they love to fetch, most likely we can make a gun dog out of them.

Puppies Available, a male and a female are available out of a litter from my stud Rocky. Rocky is a proven producer and I have trained many of his puppies and they are excellent. They have looks, trainability, hunting desire, the whole package. They should be around 75lbs. Take a look at Rocky’s pedigree and the mom’s pedigree in the links below and give Luke Staab a call 308-730-0851 if you are interested.

Early mornings in June are my favorite times for training

We throw a lot of singles. It may seem too easy for experienced dogs, but something as simple as the scent from an old mark can trip them up and cause them to lose momentum. After we practice this enough, they learn the difference between a fresh scent and an old scent, even if it’s only a few minutes old.
