Our Patient of the Day for today is BiBi! He came in today after his owner noticed he was breathing irregularly and his jaw looked off center. We took radiographs and saw that his jaw is fine, but one upper and two lower canines were very loose and caused the suspected misalignment. In the end we removed several teeth and BiBi will feel much better without them. Thanks for choosing West Villa! 💚

Our Patient of the Day today is Poquito! He came in for a vaccination update and was very sweet! He received his DRC-CH combo vaccination and his Rabies vaccination. The DRC-CH vaccination protects our feline buddies from distemper, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and chlamydia. We start it at 8 weeks and ideally continue administering the vaccination throughout a cat's life. Rabies is a state mandated vaccination so all pets who enter the clinic receive it. Our Patient of the Day for today is Dipper! To be honest, I've been trying to get Dipper as our Patient of the Day since her first visit, but I always miss my chance to ask when she comes in. Today was a booster vaccination appointment. She is a beautiful kitty! And kind of a messy eater. 🙃 Thanks for choosing West Villa! 💚

So, today was kind of an off day at West Villa. We don't have a Patient of the Day, BUT today is International Dog Day! ⭐️Employee Spotlight: Alicia Whitney⭐️
"From the age of 7, I was involved in 4-H. Through my dad and my grandparents on my dad’s side, I learned that although the animals we raised were livestock and might one day become food, they still deserved respect, compassion, and the best possible care. Those early experiences sparked my lifelong love for animals. I participated in 4-H for 11 years and FFA for 5 years, and I am incredibly grateful to the people that helped me discover my passion for animals. After high school, I attended college at NCTA to study veterinary technology. Although I faced some challenges in college, I graduated. While I wasn’t able to earn my veterinary technician license at that time, I didn’t give up on my goal. After meeting my husband, I moved to Kearney and began working as a veterinary assistant. In September of 2024, I joined the team at West Villa Animal Hospital. With the encouragement and support of my coworkers, I have started taking online classes to pursue my license again, and I’m closer than ever to achieving that goal. Fun facts about me: my favorite dog breed is the Australian Shepherd, and my favorite cats are any that are polydactyl (the ones with extra toes!)"

Patient of the Day today is Kow! It was her first vet visit for kitten vaccinations, Revolution, and a deworming treatment. We deworm kittens frequently because they are often born with or easily catch intestinal parasites through their mother's milk. Common risks to kittens of a large parasite burden include anemia, stunted growth, digestive distress, and risk of spread to humans. Treating multiple times addresses the life stages of parasites, and vets recommend starting as early as 3 weeks of age, repeating every 2 weeks until about 9 weeks of age, and then switching to monthly treatments.
