A growl can feel scary, but it’s important to understand what your dog is communicating.
Growling is often a warning that your dog is uncomfortable, afraid, overwhelmed, or wants more space. Punishing a dog for growling may stop the warning without addressing the emotion behind it.
Instead of focusing only on the growl, pay attention to what happened before it. Understanding the trigger gives us valuable information about what your dog needs and where training can help.
