What do your pet’s vaccines actually protect against?

Vaccines do so much more than just check a box at your pet’s annual visit! They help protect our dogs and cats from serious diseases, from parvovirus and leptospirosis to feline leukemia and rabies.

Whether your pet is a social butterfly who loves daycare or a homebody who prefers the couch, keeping up with their preventive care is an important part of keeping them healthy!

Not sure which vaccines your pet needs? We’re happy to help you figure out the best plan for their lifestyle. 🐶🐱

Pretty sure Cooper had a few important things to discuss with Dr. C… mostly treats, belly rubs, and being told how cute he is. He was thoroughly exhausted by the end of his appointment. 😂🐶💙

Let’s talk teeth! 🐶🐱

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common problems we see in our pets? And unfortunately, it’s not just about having stinky breath! Plaque and tartar can build up along and underneath the gums, leading to inflammation, infection, pain, and eventually problems with the teeth themselves.

That’s where professional dental cleanings come in! During a dental, we’re able to take dental radiographs, clean the teeth both above AND below the gumline and take a close look at each tooth to make sure there aren’t any problems hiding underneath all that tartar.

But keeping those pearly whites healthy doesn’t stop at the vet! 🪥

Here are a few things you can do at home:

• Brush their teeth — Daily is best, but even a few times a week is better than nothing!
• Dental chews — The right dental chew can help reduce plaque and tartar buildup between cleanings.
• Regular exams — We’ll check those teeth during wellness visits and let you know when it may be time for a professional cleaning.

And if your pet gives you the look of betrayal when you pull out the toothbrush… you’re definitely not alone. 😂 Start slow, use lots of praise (and treats!), and make it part of their routine.

A little dental care at home + regular veterinary exams + professional cleanings when needed = a much happier, healthier mouth!

HEARTWORM PREVENTION MATTERS! 💙

Heartworms are a serious and potentially life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. And unfortunately, even pets who spend most of their time indoors can be at risk.

The good news? Heartworm disease is preventable! Regular heartworm testing and consistent prevention are key to keeping your pet protected.

🐾 Heartworm testing: Annual testing helps us catch infections early and make sure your pet is protected before continuing or starting prevention.

🐾 Prevention options: There are several options available, including oral, topical, and injectable heartworm preventatives. Your veterinarian can help determine which option is the best fit for your pet.

🐾 Year-round protection: Mosquitoes can be active even during cooler months, so keeping your pet on prevention year-round is the best way to maintain continuous protection.

And remember, treating heartworm disease is expensive and hard on the pet. Preventing it is much easier!

Have questions about which heartworm prevention is right for your pet? Give our team a call!
