It’s that time of the year again. As we clean up our yards and enjoy the outdoors, be sure to save a little room for some harmless herps! This is the lined snake, no bigger than a nightcrawler and the 5-lined skink. Both are beneficial to gardens and yards by eating many pests. Enjoy the Spring!

Fun little guy! This is a leachianus gecko, born this past summer. Just got an upgrade in housing! I call him “Lichen”! 😀

Meet the mourning geckos! These little lizards live in a large colony and they are all female! This species, Lepidodactylus lugubris, reproduces by parthenogenesis and does not require a male. You can see some developing eggs in their abdomen. Sorry boys, but we’re out of a job!😀

Happy World Reptile Day! It’s easy to love the warm and fuzzy animals but the scaly ones need love too. We owe a lot to these guys such as pest and disease control as well as many developments in medicine. Thanks Reptiles!

I love the beauty of native flowers and grasses. Such important food for native insects like the monarch. All in my backyard in late September. These are native asters. Check them out for your yard! The bees and butterflies will thank you! 😀

The queen has finally moved into her new enclosure! This is a female spiny-tailed iguana and her new space has taken me several months to complete it. I’m not sure she is pleased!😀
