Fun fact for dog lovers! Did you know dogs can have a dominant paw, just like people can be left- or right-handed?

You may also notice your dog licking their paws from time to time as part of normal grooming. But if the licking becomes frequent or excessive, it could be worth checking for irritation, allergies, or discomfort.

Try watching your pup the next time you offer a treat. Which paw do they reach with first?

Not every walk needs to be about distance, speed, or perfect obedience. Sometimes, slowing down and letting your dog explore is exactly what they need.

A decompression walk, or “snifari,” gives your dog time to sniff, investigate, and engage with the world at their own pace. These calmer outings can provide valuable mental enrichment and help dogs practice settling around everyday sights, sounds, and smells.
Try a quieter route, give your dog a little more freedom to explore safely, and remember: a successful walk isn’t always measured in miles. How much sniffing time does your dog get on walks?

We’re so grateful to Hfyd N. for trusting Off Leash K9 Training with both of their dogs! After completing our two-week Board & Train with trainer Justine, their pups came home with stronger obedience, better manners, and plenty of new skills.

Back-to-routine season is here!

As schedules get busier, your dog can benefit from a little extra structure too. Watch for signs of boredom, keep daily routines consistent, practice place training, and make time for walks, play, and short training sessions.

Small routines can make a big difference in helping your dog stay calm, focused, and happy.

This National Service Dog Month, let’s show our appreciation by giving service dog teams the space and respect they deserve!

That friendly hello or quick pet can wait. Speak to the handler, avoid distractions, and keep your own dog at a respectful distance. Always ask before petting, and remember that “no” deserves an understanding response. These dogs have important work to do!

At Off Leash K9 Training, we’re celebrating the teamwork, trust, and connection between dogs and their people. Let’s be thoughtful neighbors to every service dog team we meet.
