Your Dog Is Talking. Are You Listening?

Dogs communicate long before they bark, growl, or react.

A lip lick.
A yawn.
Turning away.
Freezing.
Pinned ears.

These are all ways your dog communicates how they're feeling. The best trainers don't just teach dogs, they learn to read them.

Understanding your dog's body language helps prevent problems, build trust, and improve communication between you and your dog. The better you understand your dog, the better your relationship becomes.

Let us help you learn how to successfully understand and communicate with your dog!

Sibling Aggression: "They Used to Get Along..."

One of the most frustrating things for dog owners is when two dogs in the same home suddenly start fighting or showing tension toward each other. Sibling aggression can develop over food, toys, attention, space, or simply because boundaries and structure have become unclear.

The good news? It doesn't mean your dogs hate each other.

Many cases improve dramatically with proper management, clear leadership, and training that teaches both dogs how to coexist calmly. If you're seeing growling, tension, guarding, or fights between household dogs, don't wait for it to get worse. Early intervention makes a huge difference.

☀️ Summer Safety for Dogs ☀️

Summer is one of the best times to get outside with your dog, but it also comes with a few risks.

Remember:
💧 Bring water on walks
🌳 Take breaks in the shade
🔥 Check pavement before walking
🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car
🐕 Watch for signs of overheating

If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paw. A little planning goes a long way toward keeping your dog safe, comfortable, and happy all summer long.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

As we spend time with family, friends, and our dogs this weekend, we’re grateful for the freedoms made possible by those who served.

From all of us, thank you to the heroes who will never be forgotten. ❤️🐾

Warm weather is here… which means hotter sidewalks, more distractions, and dogs suddenly acting like they’ve never heard a command before.

As temperatures rise, remember:
💧 Bring water
🔥 Watch hot pavement
🐕 Train in shorter sessions during peak heat
🌳 Use shade and breaks when needed

Hot, overstimulating environments can make dogs more reactive, distracted, and uncomfortable. A little preparation goes a long way toward safer walks and better behavior this summer.

Kids and dogs can form incredible bonds, but good relationships don’t happen automatically.

Dogs need: clear boundaries, safe space, supervision, and positive interactions and kids need to learn how to respectfully interact with dogs too.

Even the sweetest dog can become overwhelmed by rough handling, constant attention, or unpredictable behavior. When you train with us our goal isn’t just a dog that “tolerates” kids, it’s a calm, confident dog that understands how to live peacefully with the whole family.

Great family dogs are built through training, structure, and guidance for both the dog and the humans. Contact us to get started!

Why Your Dog Resource Guards

Growling over food.
Snatching toys.
Freezing when you get too close.

That’s not your dog being “dominant” it’s called resource guarding.

Resource guarding happens when a dog feels the need to protect something valuable:
food • bones • toys • space • even people

Most of the time, it comes from insecurity, fear of losing access, or past reinforcement, not aggression for the sake of aggression.

The biggest mistake?
Punishing the warning signs.

If you punish the growl, you often remove the warning… not the problem. Training should focus on trust, structure, and clear boundaries, not force and conflict!

If your dog guards food, toys, or space, don’t ignore it.
Early training makes all the difference.

Obedience vs. Behavior Modification
They’re Not the Same

Teaching your dog to sit is obedience. Teaching your dog not to lunge at other dogs? That’s behavior modification.

Obedience focuses on commands like:
✔ Sit
✔ Down
✔ Place
✔ Recall
✔ Leash manners

Behavior modification works on deeper issues like:
Reactivity
Aggression
Anxiety
Resource guarding
Fear-based behaviors

One teaches skills. The other changes emotional responses and habits. Both matter, but solving serious behavior problems takes more than basic commands.

If your dog’s issue is bigger than “not listening,” they may need behavior modification, not just obedience training.
