Wendy is friendly, affectionate, and genuinely enjoys being around people. She'll happily come over looking for pets and attention, and she's doing wonderfully in her foster home with two other small dogs. She loves playing with her canine friends!

After spending her earlier life as a breeding dog, Wendy is finally discovering what it means to be loved simply for being herself.

Now all she needs is a family of her own.

"She won’t even sit by me. She’ll only sit by him... She acted like he was her child." 🥹❤️

​Look at this sequence of pure love. Sweet Whitney went on a Doggy Day Out yesterday and from the very first minute, Whitney picked her favorite human..the child.

When your car breaks down, but you happen to have the best co-pilot on the planet. 🚗💔➡️🐾❤️

​Today’s Doggy Day Out with sweet Frankie didn’t go quite as planned, but he showed us exactly who he is when things go sideways!

​Our day started out beautifully:
​🚗 Car rides? An absolute pro.
​🦮 Leash manners? Walked like a total gentleman.
​🏡 Backyard time? Most dogs bolt straight for the grass to sniff and run. Frankie? He walked straight up to me, leaned in, and wrapped his paws around me for a hug. That’s all he wanted—just hugs, pets, and love.

​Then came the plot twist: we were heading to the pet store when my car completely died.

​We had to sit and wait for the tow truck, and while most dogs might get stressed or impatient, Frankie was an angel. He stayed right by my side, kept me calm, and gave me comfort the entire time. He turned what could have been a stressful disaster into the sweetest reminder of why dogs are humanity’s best friends.

Not quite how Frankie’s Doggy Day Out was supposed to go… but wow, did this boy just show what an incredible dog he is.

​My car broke down halfway through our afternoon adventure. While getting stranded on the side of the road isn't ideal, I couldn't ask for better company. Frankie has just been sitting quietly right next to me, completely calm, occasionally shooting me a funny look, and patiently waiting out the tow truck like he does this every day.

​Moments like this show you who a shelter dog really is when things don’t go smoothly. Frankie is gentle, adaptable, unbothered, and loyal to his core.
​He’s ready for a forever home that will take him on road trips (hopefully with a more reliable vehicle next time).

We have been asked to help these tiny puppies but we need a place for them to go.

They were found wondering outside a garbage bag on the highway almost getting hit by a car. One was in the garbage bag still. Good Samaritan picked up and now they are now trying to find a spot for them.
We are being told they are chihuahua mixes.

Is anyone willing to foster these tiny tots? There are three total. You just need a spare room or space in your bathroom and a pin (we can provide)

They are currently eating puppy food.

​Look at that full-body hug! Sweet Betsy had a tiny human visitor drop by today, and she immediately stood up on two feet to wrap her paws right around the child.
**we are aware that's not the best puppy behavior and trainers seeing this picture may cringe. We know she is 100% trainable. We shared this photo because of the spirit it conveys...tiny humans make her happy

​From her school visit to today's sweet snuggles, Betsy continues to prove she has the gentlest heart and is completely in love with kids. After waiting 10 months in a rural kennel, all this girl wants is a family to hug every single day.

Wendy is an adorable Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie mix) who recently came into our care from an Amish breeder in Central Missouri. She spent 2 months with another rescue in town and came to us last week. Her mama days are officially over—now it’s finally her turn to be pampered and loved as a cherished pet.

​Coming from a commercial breeding background, many dogs can be shy or shut down, but Miss Wendy is an absolute sweetheart who is wonderfully people-friendly!

​She is currently decompressing in a foster home in the Gladstone area, living alongside two other small dogs and doing fantastic. Her foster mom notes that she takes her house duties seriously—she will sound a little bark to let you know someone is at the door, just like a loyal little guard dog should!

​Quick Facts About Miss Wendy:

​Breed & Size: Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie mix), currently ~20 lbs. She’s carrying a few extra pounds from a past diet of strictly canned food, but with balanced meals and a regular walking routine, she’ll be feeling lean and spry in no time!

​Dog & People Friendly: Sweet with humans and coexisting smoothly with small canine housemates.

​Health Note: Wendy has an older eye injury. We had two separate veterinarians evaluate it thoroughly—it is non-painful, requires no surgical repair, and doesn't slow her down a bit.

​Location: Fostered in Gladstone, MO (Greater Kansas City area).

Thunder and lightning outside, pure calm and comfort inside. ⛈️🛋️❤️

​Last night, volunteer Amanda Iovini turned Mr. P’s Doggy Day Out into an overnight slumber party—and what happened during the raging storms shows exactly what kind of dog he truly is.

​Instead of pacing or panicking, Mr. P curled right up on the couch, sleeping peacefully alongside Amanda’s dogs (one his size, and one little dog!). He didn’t just handle the stormy night—he melted right into home life like he’d been doing it forever.

​Mr. P waited in a kennel at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter since September 5, 2025. After over 13 months (400+ days), he isn't letting shelter life define him. He is proving that he is beyond ready for a soft couch, canine siblings of any size, and a forever family of his own.
