Yesterday the Chillicothe community gave us a massive reason to hope. We want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to Chris, the manager at Chillicothe Ford Lincoln 🚙❤️
Chris stepped up without hesitation to sponsor Gizmo’s $100 pull fee. Because of his incredible generosity, that financial hurdle is completely solved. Chris showed today that he truly cares about the animals in our community, and we are so grateful for local businesses that use their heart to help the vulnerable.

Now, we need the final, most important piece of the puzzle: A PLACE FOR GIZMO TO GO. 🏡

The fee is covered. We just need a rescue, foster home or an adopter to step forward so we can officially pull this sweet senior boy out of the shelter and show him what a real home feels like.
Please join us in thanking Chris and Chillicothe Ford for giving Gizmo this incredible head start. Now, let’s finish what Chris started!

Can you share this post? Let’s find Gizmo his place to land. 👇7 years in a shelter is waaaaaaay too long!

Gizmo!
Chillicothe Animal Shelter
Chillicothe, MO

Who can help get him out?? Anyone in Missouri willing to give him a home?
Or willing to foster to get him out of the shelter?

If no one local can foster or adopt, one of our fosters in NW Indiana is willing to take him in.

He would need a ride from Chillicothe, MO to Rolling Prairie, IN
Anyone up for a road trip for a cause?
Once you drop him off you can go to the Michigan beaches or the Indiana dunes beach. Or head to Chicago on your way back to Missouri

Here is Gizmo with his kennelmate Stella. I took this video on 5.10.26- our second visit to the shelter. If you haven't seen the other video we posted about him. Gizmo has been at the shelter for 7 years :(
💔 What does seven years look like? 💔

Seven years ago...
- A child entering kindergarten would now be heading into middle school.
- A high school freshman would have graduated and finished college.
- A family could have welcomed a baby and watched them grow into a second grader.

For Gizmo, seven years has meant living in a shelter kennel - the one you see here. that's a looooooooooooooong time.

Gizmo arrived at the Chillicothe Shelter in Chillicothe Missouri on May 1, 2019.

Since then, he has watched people come and go. He's watched other dogs leave. He's spent birthdays, holidays, summers, winters, and thousands of ordinary days waiting.

And somehow, after all this time, he's still sweet.

- He's still friendly.

- He's still willing to trust people.

But here's the thing...

Gizmo has been there for seven years not because nobody would want him.

He's been there for seven years because NOBODY KNEW HE WAS THERE.

One of the sayings we've lived by at Day of the Dogs for years is:

"If they know the need, they will help."

People cannot help dogs they never see.

People cannot adopt dogs they never hear about.

People cannot share stories they don't know exist.

Now we know. Now you know

We know Gizmo is at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter in Chillicothe, MO.

We know he's sweet.

We know he deserves better than spending another month on a concrete floor.

And I am asking all of you to help make sure June is Gizmo's last month in a shelter.

How can you help?

✅ Share his video to your own page.

✅ Talk about him to your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and dog-loving contacts.

✅ Tag people who might be looking for a dog.

✅ Help us get his story in front of the person who is supposed to be his person.

Gizmo is the shelter's longest resident, but he is not the only one waiting.

There are dogs at this shelter that have spent 1, 2, and 3 years living in a kennel environment.

Their videos have been posted on the wall of this page. Some have only been viewed by 2-3 people. :( They need thousands knowing their need.

Please take a few minutes to start at the top of the wall of the page and scroll down.

See them.

Learn their names.

Know their stories.

Know how long they've been waiting.

And then share.

Because exposure saves lives.

Let's make sure these dogs are finally seen. ❤️🐾

🎉 Happy Tails for J.J.! 🎉

Yesterday was J.J.'s lucky day... and honestly, we think it was his adopter's lucky day too. ❤️

From the moment J.J. arrived, it was obvious that he had one goal in life: be as close to his person as physically possible.

Lap? Perfect.

Couch? Perfect.

Bed? Even better.

If there was a human nearby, J.J. wanted to be right there with them.

That's why we are so excited about his adoption. J.J. was adopted by a wonderful man who works from home and was looking for a companion to share his days with. For a dog who thrives on human connection and loves being by his person's side, we couldn't have asked for a better match.

Some dogs need a yard. Some dogs need another dog. Some dogs need adventure.

J.J. needed a best friend.

And today, he found one. 🐾❤️

Thank you to everyone who shared his posts, cheered him on, and helped him find his way home.

Happy life, sweet J.J. We have a feeling you're going to spend a lot of time curled up next to your new favorite person. 🥰

The best days end with "Officially Adopted!" 🍾🎉

Solo came up from Texas on Saturday after waiting in a shelter since February, and today he met his forever family.

I took a photo of him on our way to the meet-and-greet, and his adopters told me they felt like they already knew him before he even stepped out of the car. Talk about an instant connection! They already absolutely adore him, and the feeling is completely mutual.

Solo, you are a total gem and we are all so happy for your next chapter. Happy tails, sweet boy! 🐾❤️
