This is from Lew Olsen...."Vaccines. I have now seen a video out on Vaccines that is FULL of misinformation. If you watch ANYTHING that promotes fear, it is marketing, not education. Titers ONLY work 3 weeks after vaccination. They ONLY measure circulating antibodies, which occurs AFTER vaccination or IF EXPOSED to the disease. Otherwise, they are dormant. Titer detect circulating antibodies ONLY. I never use them, but IF I DID, the best time is 3 weeks after vaccination. If antibodies are circulating, the vaccine worked, and no need to give more.
Second, vaccinations do NOT cause cancer. They CAN allow cancer to develop when given to older pets, as they DO depress the immune system for 2 to 3 weeks. Give shots ONLY 4 weeks apart. Puppies ONLY NEED 2 sets, given a month apart. Rabies is the only different one, it needs TWO to booster it.
Third, vaccines are working on reducing adjuvant (the carrying liquid), this is probably the most worrisome part of them. You can already buy reduced adjuvant vaccines for toy dogs.
Please read, education yourself and hold in high doubt ANY information made to scare you."

A great way to "trim" your dogs nails and work their brain!

Tuesday Training Tip! Did you know you can teach your dog how to give themselves a pedicure? Oh yes you can!

Many dogs do not like having their nails trimmed for a variety of reasons. Yes, you can take the time to train your dog to be comfortable with nail trims. It can be a long process and some dogs just never get comfortable with nail trims.

Instead, you can teach your dog to file their own nails! You need a piece of board, sandpaper (or the sticky outdoors deck treads) and some treats. First, you start marking and rewarding for putting their paws on the board. Soon, you'll only mark and reward when you hear the scratching of the nails. You're looking for a downward swiping motion. Then as your dog is using both paws you can only reward every couple scratches, the longest ones or the best ones.

As trainers we are always amazed how fast the dogs pick-up this behavior and truly seem to enjoy giving themselves a "pawdicure".
