A dog's nose can go from wet to dry throughout the day for perfectly normal reasons, including sleeping, weather, activity, and hydration.

Instead of judging health by nose moisture alone, watch your dog's overall behavior and symptoms.

If a dry nose is accompanied by lethargy, appetite changes, vomiting, discharge, cracking, sores, or other concerns, call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

Important Notice Regarding Pet Cremation Services 📢

Dear Platte Woods Animal Hospital Clients,

Effective November 2, 2026, Platte Woods Animal Hospital will be transitioning to Pet Aftercare Services, a locally owned company, for our pet cremation services.

We understand how difficult it is to say goodbye to a beloved family member. In today’s economy, we want to do what we can to help make this process a little easier for our clients by offering a more affordable cremation option without compromising the compassion and care your pet deserves. ❤️

With this change, we will no longer be coordinating cremation services through Trusted Journey. However, if you prefer to use Trusted Journey, you are absolutely welcome to make arrangements with them directly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition. Our goal is always to support you and your family during life’s most difficult moments while keeping affordability in mind.

Thank you for trusting Platte Woods Animal Hospital with the care of your beloved pets. We are grateful to be part of your family’s journey. 🫶

Sometimes gradual weight gain is hard to notice when you see your pet every day.

A healthy body condition involves more than the number on the scale. Your veterinarian can evaluate your pet's ribs, waist, body shape, muscle condition, age, and lifestyle to determine an appropriate weight range.

Wondering where your pet falls? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net to schedule a wellness visit.

Dogs don't always show stress by barking or trying to escape. Their signals can be much more subtle.

Repeated yawning, lip licking, turning away, trembling, tucked tails, flattened ears, or suddenly refusing treats may all be ways your dog is communicating discomfort.

Learning to recognize those early signals allows us to make experiences more comfortable. Have concerns about your dog's behavior or anxiety? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

Cats may be more independent in some ways, but they still need plenty of care and enrichment. Playtime, scratching opportunities, clean litter boxes, appropriate nutrition, dental care, and routine veterinary visits all contribute to a healthy life. Team cat, team dog, or team both? For pet care questions, call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

Dogs communicate constantly through body language. Tail position, ears, posture, facial expressions, vocalizations, and even how they move can give us clues about whether they’re relaxed, excited, nervous, or uncomfortable. Learning to recognize those signals can help you better understand your dog. Questions about a behavior change? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

Brushing at home is an excellent habit, but it can't remove hardened tartar or fully address disease below the gumline.

A veterinary dental procedure lets the mouth be thoroughly evaluated and the teeth cleaned above and below the gumline, where periodontal disease can develop unseen.

Is your pet due for a dental evaluation? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

Those little treats can add up faster than you think!

Treats should complement a nutritionally balanced diet, not become a major source of daily calories. Keep portions small and remember that chews, table scraps, and training rewards all count toward your dog's daily intake.

Concerned about your pet's weight or nutrition? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.

We can only imagine what this cat is thinking! Cats communicate a lot without saying a word. Their ears, eyes, whiskers, tail, posture, and vocalizations can all offer clues about how they’re feeling. Learning your cat’s normal body language can even help you notice subtle changes sooner. Questions? Call (816) 741-8600 or visit our website: www.plattewoodsanimalhospital.net.
