Babies on the wire.
I have been breeding for five years and I still mess up sometimes when I palpate. This time, four babies were born on the wire, three in which I was able to save.
I’ve tried everything! I have placed them on a heating pad, on a hot water bottle, in my bra, my armpits, and every warm crack, crevice and corner I could find 🤣
The following method is hands down the BEST and QUICKEST method to getting these babies warm again.
Fill a bowl with hot water, the hottest that your hand can handle and not any hotter.
Place babies in a ziplock bag that remains opened and fully supervised.
Lay them flat side down on the hot water for 5 minutes, and then flip them over and lay that side down for 5 minutes.
Keep rotating for at least 30 minutes.
Finally, get a dry towel or blanket and snuggle them them up next to each other.
Let their breathing and heart rates settle while making sure they stay VERY warm.
While they stay warm nearby, help mom pluck her under belly of fur and build her best.
Then put her on her back and help stimulate her milk.
Nurse the babies until they have full bellies and then place them in the nest box and cover with fur.
Constantly check on mom and babies until you notice mom is nursing them on her own.
