Meet Charlotte Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Charlotte is a 7 year old spayed standard chinchilla rabbit. Fun fact, rabbits generally only breath through their nose and not there mouth. If your rabbit is open mouth breathing, this is a sign of an emergency.

Meet Sammy Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Sammy is an 8 year old hound mix. Your pet does not need a costume to join your October photos. If dressing up is already comfortable for your dog or cat, check that an outfit allows easy movement, clear vision, and normal breathing. Look for pieces that could be chewed off, and supervise the entire time. If your pet freezes, struggles, or seems uncomfortable, take the outfit off and let the celebration continue without it. A plain background and a familiar resting spot can make a lovely picture, too. What would your pet choose: a brief costume appearance or arriving as their perfectly wonderful everyday self?

He wanted to let everyone know that rabbit teeth continue to erupt throughout their life and if they overgrow that can cause difficulties with eating. Symptoms of dental overgrowth incrude drooling with a wet chin, weight loss, eye discharge, nose discharge, teeth grinding, anorexia, and decreased stool production. If you see these signs have us check their teeth and we can many times correct this condition by filing their teeth.

Meet PK Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! PK Is a 4-month-old male domestic short hair. A cat can seem comfortable while a heart question still needs investigating. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, often shortened to HCM, affects the heart muscle. A murmur alone does not confirm it, and not every affected cat has a murmur. Veterinarians use the full clinical picture and may recommend an ultrasound of the heart when appropriate. That does not mean every cat needs the same tests. At your next routine visit, ask what your cat's examination and history suggest. If your cat is struggling to breathe, seek urgent veterinary care instead of waiting for a routine appointment. Clear questions and an individualized plan are a useful place to begin.

Meet Teddy Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Teddy is a 1-year-old neutered husky mix. Why does a veterinarian sometimes recommend a test, a particular antibiotic, or no antibiotic at all? One reason is antimicrobial stewardship: choosing treatment that fits the patient while helping preserve antibiotic effectiveness.
A new peer-reviewed Cornell study followed 19 cats after treatment with one of two commonly used antibiotics. Both groups showed some resistant intestinal E. coli, but resistance lasted longer in one group. Importantly, several large differences were driven mainly by a single cat, and the study was small and observational.
This does not name one antibiotic as right or wrong for every cat. It reinforces that diagnosis, likely bacteria, route, follow-up, and the individual cat all matter. Give antibiotics exactly as directed and call the prescribing veterinarian before making any change.

Meet Snowball Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Snowball is a 3 year old neuter Great Pyranees. Recall check for dog families: Fi has recalled two powdered supplements because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected products are Fi Calming supplement, lot 26118, and Fi 8-in-1 Formula, lot 26159. FDA says they were sold directly and through Amazon and Chewy.
If you have one, compare the product name and lot number with the FDA notice. Stop using an affected lot, keep the container sealed, and follow the recall instructions for disposal. Wash hands after handling the product or pet waste. Dogs that have eaten an affected product may or may not look ill, so contact a veterinarian if you notice concerning changes. People who become ill after exposure should contact their healthcare provider.

Meet Cuddles Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Cuddles is a 3 year old neutered Great Pyrenees. September is a good time for a five-minute pet emergency-kit check. Midwest emergencies can range from severe storms and tornadoes to flooding, winter outages, or a sudden evacuation.
CDC's checklist includes copies of veterinary and ownership records, a recent photo, microchip information, food and water, medication and feeding instructions, a secure carrier, leash or harness, identification, sanitation supplies, and familiar comfort items. Add species-specific needs for birds, reptiles, rabbits, or small mammals.
Also decide where your pets could go if you need to leave home, and choose a trusted backup person who can help if you are away. Keep records protected and contact information current. For prescription refills or special medical needs, plan with a veterinarian rather than waiting for an emergency.
