I graduated with my DVM five years ago today. It was an incredible day celebrating four years of intense course work, grueling hours, and emotional cases. I felt proud and honored. But mostly, I felt grateful for all the people who got me there- my family, friends, classmates, mentors, and teachers. It was a celebration of them too.
My heart is aching for the graduating classes of 2020 who cannot commemorate their accomplishments this way. The way they envisioned during those all nighters and third cups of coffee. The way they deserve to celebrate.
I see you and your hard work. You are armed with the knowledge and passion to tackle our world’s biggest challenges. May this experience light a fire in you to engage in a One Health movement to protect the precious lives of our loved ones (two, three and four-legged) & our world. I hope you find your own unique way to celebrate the degree you’ve earned and dream for the future.
The one plus side to an informal graduation, however...no cap to constantly be fidgeting with (or lose as you walk across the stage 😳). Congrats Class of 2020!
