OTTB's, Quarter Horses Since 2000 her focus has been on hunters and jumpers.

Wellspring Riding Academy was established in 2004 and is now permanently located at Skyview Farm in Kankakee, IL. Kim Selby is the trainer and has a lifetime of experience in breeding, breaking/training, and showing Quarter Horses on the AQHA circuits in western pleasure, hunter under saddle, trail, western riding, pleasure driving, working hunter/hunter hack, horsemanship, equitation and showmanship. She has competed at AQHA shows all over the Midwest and beyond, including the Quarter Horse Congress, World Show, and various futurities such as Tom Powers and Whistle Stop. Her riders have won numerous ribbons, circuit and year end awards in youth and amateur events. Her horses and show team compete at "A", "B", Northern Illinois Hunter Jumper Association (NIHJA) and local schooling shows. Kim is a very well-rounded horse person having also competed in team penning, reining, and barrel racing. In addition she drove horse drawn carriages in downtown Chicago for 3 years to pay her way thru college, working primarily with draft horses. Kim is a graduate of Illinois State University with a major in Political Science and minor in Economics and has 12 + years of corporate experience in the insurance industry. While working in the corporate world, Kim continued to train and show horses, teach lessons, judge local open and 4-H shows, and give horsemanship clinics. Working in the corporate world helped develop Kim’s strong sense of customer service and attention to detail. In 1998 Kim quit the corporate world to pursue her horse business full-time. Wellspring Riding Academy was eventually developed in 2004 to offer quality, positive instruction to her students and horses. Kim has developed a philosophy of balanced riding and a more natural approach to connecting and communicating with your horse. "Ask, don't tell; soft, but firm; repetition, persistency, consistency." Tough Enough To Wear Pink Horse Show last weekend was so much fun with these girls and horses! Arabella Rauch (Mindy Rauch) and Lily Schurr (Amy Schurr) did a great job representing in the Sloppy Showmanship Saturday afternoon. They created the routine last minute on Sat. They performed to my song that was popular in 2016 when I was going thru breast cancer mastectomy and treatment. So proud of these girls! This show has helped raise money over the last 20 years for breast cancer. It's an amazing show and cause! Thank you Kay Tracy for all you have done to make this happen! You are truly a blessing to so many. Chip was definitely with us this past weekend! 🩷

I do this show to honor all the women in my life touched by breast cancer.

Espada is a 3 year old OTTB mare available thru Galloping Out TB Aftercare Program. She was in her first show last weekend. Just showed her in a flat class. We have trotted and cantered poles. We have also trotted over a few x poles. We don't want to push her. She's super confident and willing. No injuries. Only raced twice. It wasn't her thing. She's gonna make a nice jumper or eventer. Really good, clean, correct legs. She's about 15.3-16h with room to grow. Super good minded! Solid horse. Love her! ❤️🐎

Such an amazing weekend at Ledges NIHJA show this weekend with Sarah Cordes-Leblebijian and Charles Time. They looked amazing! She and Charlie did their first Hunter Derby. Charlie has been a difficult horse to train. Seems to be my thing! I'm so proud of Sarah and Charlie!!! He is an unraced TB we bought as a 2 year old stallion. 🎉❤️🐎
