Hey all! We had some technology problems the last few weeks, so missed a couple updates. So getting back at it! Miss Kwyn is definitely pregnant!! They are due in about two weeks. Working on nailing down my waiting list, but may have a couple spots open up after the pups are born and we get a head count. Shes gotten to go out on a couple of adventures the last couple weekends and getting lots of snuggle time.

Mamma girl is 3 weeks pregnant today. She is completely swapped over to raw food. Its been a bit of a journey getting back to a place where I can make the food, so kind of excited to be raising this litter on it! This week the babies have attached to the uterine wall. Below you can see what they would look like in an ultrasound, (no we didn't ultrasound Kwyn, its a stock photo to give context). They will be doing lots of growing in the next couple weeks. We are 1/3 of the way through now!!

If Kwyn is pregnant, her two week mark was yesterday. I am very much leaning toward the fact that she is pregnant based on attitude and looks. She was just starting to blow out her winter coat when we went up to Seattle. But her coat is thick and glossy right now! She's also been SUPER clingy, which was a big sign the first litter too.

Owner write up: Dewey has a quintessential English Shepherd temperament. Unlike a typical border collie, he has the kind of temperament and personality that allows him to lay down and take a nap while the sheep are all around him. However, he is also a great watchdog and caretaker of the farm. He is the first to alert us if a coyote or other wild animal comes up to the fence. Dewey is a favorite of all the staff and volunteers. He is easy going and low maintenance. He’s a watcher and observer and very thoughtful. When he does approach, he is not a dog that comes up and gets in your space. He is loving and affectionate with people of all ages, from children to adults, and people with special needs as well. We’ve had many families with Dewey puppies report back to us how much they love their good-natured and intelligent puppies. Dewey’s coloring is rare, and he has the DNA for a lot of different color options. Kwyn meaning "descendant of Conn, Wisdom" seemed a name to fit like a glove when we first found it. She's a dog that we shouldn't have had by any mean, yet she's here. Kwyn was born the day that I was admitted into rehab for a spinal cord injury, after being in the hospital for 6 weeks. We had no idea she was coming until a couple days before they came. Life was in full turmoil. We had planned on having her, but 18 months later than when she came. When I came home after a couple months in rehab, I had no intention of keeping a pup, but loved her personality! She is an extremely human driven dog! She her greatest joy is to know she did the right thing! Incredibly smart and soft, makes her a joy to train something new. As she matured from puppy to dog, I have been daily impressed with her very strong instinct to take care of her people. She is always there ready to lend help if she can. Most of my commands to her are wordless, she's just watching me constantly. Very easy going dog with a good natural off switch. She hasn't had much opportunity to work stock, so don't know her working ability. She is out of our own dogs. Her sire is KC'S Green Mountain Conrad and her dam is Paradise's Lovin' Elnora. We might have babies on board!!!
After the week spent with Dewy, we had to reevaluate Spring plans! Original thought was to skip it. Then thought through using a different stud who, at the time I thought was closer. Once we decided to still try to have babies, we brought Roland out to my place. The goal was to have Kwyn and him be exposed to each other and yet not breed. Well on Saturday, he told me she was finally ready! Over the weekend I decided, mostly because I realized both studs were about the same distance away from me, to go back to Seattle and try with Dewy again. I do still plan on using the other stud in the future hopefully, and his owner has been amazing communicating with me and working through these plans.
Got over there and they bred. If all goes well we have babies coming on or around June 15. We should start seeing mamma dog get a belly bump in a month or so.

Well sadly miss Kwyn did not breed with Dewy. It is a cross we want to do for sure, it just didn't work out this year. Due to work schedules we had to head back home. However we are going to try one more time hopefully for puppies. Talked to a stud owner who is a little closer to us. This is the stud I had originally planned to use next year, so we are going to try swapping years. We are going to watch miss Kwyn, maybe bring Roland to have him help us see when she is ready and then try to go up to the other stud. Stay tuned over the next week, we might still have puppies, we'll see.
I do so very much appreciate all the Khols did in hosting us and absolutely will try again next year.
