KENAI GunDog

KENAI GunDog KENAI is premium performance nutrition built for working gun dogs. Not pets. Not show dogs. Gun dogs. For handlers that give a damn.

Seventy-five days a season. In Arizona.

Finley came over as an imported British lab from and has been with his handler two years. All gas, no brakes — his words, and the photos back it.

Arizona waterfowl is its own discipline. Different water, different birds, a season that runs while most of the country is done. The dogs that work it hard put up numbers that surprise people who’ve only hunted flyway country.

Seventy-five days is a lot of retrieves. A lot of marks, a lot of water, a lot of mornings that blur together by February unless somebody writes them down.

Send us your dog’s work. Tag it .

The season isn’t won in November. It’s won in the quiet months — the
sun, the reps, and the recovery nobody posts about.

Rip’s already on the clock. BRYCE BROWNLEE keeps him squared away with
Joint Guard, because sound joints in the off-season are what carry a
dog through a hard fall. Build the athlete now. Ask for the work later.

Good-looking Chessie, Bryce. He looks ready.

We built KENAI for the handler, the hunter, and the dog. The marsh side is in it: its own map, its own read on conditions, its own tools. But nearly everyone who’s raised a hand for the field test runs upland.
We’re not shipping an app where only half of it got tested.
If you run a retriever and you’ll be in the water this season, we want you in before it launches. Early, free, and you tell us what’s broken. That’s the deal.

This is Turk. Zack Zimmerman’s chocolate Lab putting in the work now so the season doesn’t have to teach him anything in October. Summer training is the least glamorous part of owning a serious retriever and the part that decides everything. The birds are still months out. Turk’s already getting ready for them.

We built a GPS hunting app for gun dog handlers.

It reads the conditions for working a dog, not for
finding birds. Zero to ten, right now, where you’re
standing. Offline maps. Every hunt logged. Every dog
tracked across a season.

Before it opens to everyone, 30 handlers get it first.
You run it in the field. You run it on your couch. You tell us what’s broken.
Nothing gets posted until we’ve fixed it — when we open the doors in September, we’ll ask for your honest take then, good or bad.

Link in bio. Applications close August 15.

High Uintas, middle of summer, water cold enough to make you think twice — and a doodle hauling in a stick roughly the size of himself because nobody told him there was a weight limit. This is training. It doesn’t have to look like a drill to build the same things a drill builds. Water entry, confidence, the habit of bringing it all the way back. Some of the best conditioning a dog gets happens on a day that felt like a day off.

Sniper — Urs VD Uberhutte — on a sandhill crane hunt in West Texas. Look close and you’ll see duct tape wrapped around all four paws. The stickers out there were bad enough that Joseph Swoboda taped him up before they ever left the truck, and by his account it didn’t slow the dog down one bit.

That detail says more about the Deutsch Drahthaar than any pedigree ever will. This is a breed the German registry has protected with iron discipline for over a century, and what they were protecting was exactly this — a dog that goes into difficult country and does not renegotiate the terms once it gets there.
Cranes are their own problem. They can hurt a dog badly, particularly the eyes, and plenty of handlers run goggles because of it. Joseph Swoboda’s read is that it’s the dogs who try to dance with a crane that get hurt. Experience talking, not theory.
