A great day for a dog starts long before the first tail starts wagging.

There is a lot happening behind the scenes at Fetch to keep every part of the experience thoughtful, dependable, and centered around the dogs in our care. What may look effortless from the outside is really the result of people working together, noticing the small details, and taking pride in making sure everything is ready for another day.

That shared responsibility is a big part of what makes Fetch feel like Fetch and helps us give dogs and their families the kind of care they can count on.

Rich, one of our handlers, wanted exactly one fluffy dog.

That was the plan. He went to Paws for Life and was told many of the dogs weren't kept onsite — and the sentence had barely landed before a blur of fur came around the corner and plopped his curly-tailed bum down at Rich's feet.

Eye contact. Soul ties.

"This is the dog I'll take." Then: "Does he have any dog friends here?"

The answer swaggered in from the back—a black-and-white cat covered in scabs and a rash. Scruffles had landed at the shelter around the same time as Derby, and the two were inseparable.

So Rich went home with a short-haired dog and a cat. The rash turned out to be stress. It disappeared within days.

Noodles came later. A foster fail.

"How could I adopt out this little chihuahua and take him away from Scruffles?" Rich laughs. "Everybody there knew I was going to keep him before I did."

One fluffy dog. That was the plan.

Some of the most meaningful connections with dogs happen when we stop expecting them to fit into our world and start learning how to be part of theirs.

Every dog brings something different to the relationship, and that's something we celebrate at Fetch. Whether they're part of our daycare family or have found a new beginning through Fetch Cares, we believe every dog deserves to be understood, respected, and cared for as an individual.

It's the little moments of progress and connection that remind us why we love what we do. And sometimes, those connections turn into something that lasts a lifetime.

A few nights a month, our co-founder Tori checks into a hotel just to sit in silence.

When you live and work alongside dogs, quiet gets scarce. And a working ranch is a lively place by design — wonderful for play, harder for a dog who's waiting for a family and never quite gets to settle.

Kora waited two years.

One month, Tori brought her along.

Kora never left. She's part of the family now — fourteen-year-old Roxy, Kora, and Tori, all going home together at the end of every day.

Not every dog needs fifty acres. Some of them need a quiet room and somebody who's glad they're there.

That's part of what Fetch Cares does. If you'd like to help — we'd love to hear from you.

Some dogs make you work a little harder for the relationship, and that makes earning their trust even more meaningful.

At Fetch, we believe good care starts with meeting a dog where they are. That can mean slowing things down, respecting their boundaries, paying attention to what helps them feel safe, and giving them the space to build connection on their own terms.

Not every dog is going to respond to every person the same way, and we think that is worth honoring. Learning who they are is part of the job, and one of the best parts of it.
