The mission of the Michigan Bernese Rescue program is to take in purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs that are in shelters, or whose owners cannot care for them, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor for Bernese Mountain Dogs that might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

Rosie is a beautiful 4-year-old, 80-pound girl looking for a very special forever home. ❤️

We want to be completely transparent: Rosie is a project dog. She does not trust humans yet, and her adopter will need to be patient, experienced, and willing to let her progress at her own pace.

Rosie wants to trust. You can see it in her soulful eyes. But right now, when she becomes frightened, her instinct is to panic and run. She is a serious flight risk and can push past people or obstacles when scared.

Because of this, Rosie is not ready for outings or a busy lifestyle. Her world needs to stay small, quiet, safe, and predictable while she learns that humans can be trusted.

🏡 ROSIE’S IDEAL HOME:

🐾 Securely fenced yard — absolutely required
🐾 Experienced, patient adopter familiar with fearful/reactive dogs
🐾 NO children
🐾 NO cats
🐾 At least one confident, friendly dog — two may be even better!
🐾 Quiet, calm household
🐾 Someone home more often who can give her plenty of time
🐾 A family who will allow her to decompress without pushing her
🐾 A designated safe space where she can retreat and be left alone
🐾 Someone prepared for trust to take weeks, months, or longer

💕 MORE ABOUT ROSIE:

• 4 years old
• Approximately 80 lbs
• Spayed & up-to-date on vetting
• Good with dogs and genuinely enjoys their company
• Can be left alone for up to 6 hours
• Has never been crated
• Not currently interested in toys, treats, or bones
• Very sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements
• Making progress every single week ❤️

Rosie may not greet you at the door.

She may run. She may hide. She may watch you from a distance for a long time before deciding you're safe.

And that's okay.

Her person will be someone who can sit quietly nearby, give her space, provide gentle guidance, and celebrate the tiny victories that are actually HUGE for a dog like Rosie.

This will not be an easy adoption — but for the right person, it could be an incredibly rewarding one.

Rosie doesn't need someone to “fix” her.

❤️ She needs someone willing to walk beside her while she learns that she is finally safe.

Today, we are celebrating the big hearts, gentle souls, and goofy smiles of the Dogs who have touched our lives. Whether they are currently waiting for their forever homes in foster care or curled up on the couch with their adoptive families, these gentle giants make our world so much brighter.

Meet Celeste, aka Cece, a sweet 6-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog who is finally getting the chance to learn what it means to be a beloved family dog. 🥹🐾

Cece is a retired Amish mill momma who spent the first part of her life very differently than a typical family pet. Now, at a big, beautiful 105 pounds, she is blossoming more and more as she learns about life inside a home. ❤️

She’s a big, goofy, sweet girl who needs a family that understands former mill dogs and knows that progress comes with patience, consistency and time. She may need a little while to feel completely comfortable, but she’s already learning so much!

🏡 CECE’S IDEAL HOME:
• A secure fenced yard
• Another friendly, confident dog to help show her the ropes 🐶
• A calmer household — young, loud or frequently running children would not be the best fit
• A patient family willing to continue helping her gain confidence
• Someone who understands that many everyday experiences are still new to her

It’s been another very busy week. We have taken in more Berners (and 2 Berner mix babies) both young and old. Some were lovingly surrendered from wonderful families who simply couldn’t care for them, others were being discarded and we intercepted them before they went to the pound. None of these pups have had any vet care but now they are safe with us and will get all the love and care they need.

Thanks to your support we can insure no Berner gets discarded and every dog gets to have a wonderful life.

🚗 🩹 Transport help needed near Chicago and Suburbs for BMD and who needs X-rays 🚗🩹

We have a male BMD who needs a ride getting to the vet this Thursday, August 20th. He was just surrendered to us with a leg that was broken months ago and is in need of X-rays.

Can you help get him to or from the vet? No need to stay at the vet with him unless you are doing a round-trip transport. A board member will be meeting him there.

Ride to the vet:
9am/9:30am pickup in Evanston.
11am vet appointment in Naperville.

Ride home:
Noon-ish back to Evanston.

If you can do all or part of a ride, please message the rescue.
