Everyone join us in wishing our technicians/aspiring technician a very happy Vet Tech Appreciation Week! Alex and Kat are our two licensed vet techs and Claudia is currently in school in order to get her degree to take the VTNE and become a licensed tech!

A lot of the things you don’t see behind the scenes of the clinic are taken care of and run by these three ladies. They do a majority of diagnostics, venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, and training for the clinic. They work so incredibly hard to ensure that your pets are taken care of to the highest of standards and are often who give your pets snuggles and kisses on their surgery days 💋 Our clinics would struggle to stay afloat if it weren’t for these 3 hardworking individuals. Please make sure to give them all the love this week 💙🤍

We want to give a huge shoutout to a business that we have a wonderful relationship with and we want you to too! Thank you Peaceful Moments Veterinary Care for the wonderful fall basket 🧡🤎

Peaceful Moments is owned by one of our former DVM’s Dr. Kelly Flanagan and one of our former LVT’s Laura Mellinger, where they strive to provide high quality palliative and end of life care for pets in the Kalamazoo area. They also provide wonderful aquamation services for deceased pets and make thoughtful memorial pieces to forever encapsulate the love you have for your pet. They’ve also recently opened their Stride and Mobility Center to help with rehabilitation for senior pets, including laser therapy and time in the underwater treadmill! Our own LVT Kat can attest to how amazing these therapies are for your pets as she works at the rehab center alongside our clinic!

We are so grateful to have such a close relationship with them and highly recommend supporting their business when you get the chance 💙🤍

Today is World Rabies Day!

Rabies is a zoonotic disease (transmissible from animals to people) that is a major public health risk. Rabies is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal, the primary carriers in the United States are bats, raccoons, foxes, and skunks. Once an animal begins showing symptoms of rabies after a bite, it will almost always be fatal. Rabies is 100% preventable! Symptoms of an animal infected by rabies are sudden changes in behavior (mostly increased aggression or fearfulness), excessive drooling, staggering, difficulty swallowing, paralysis, and seizures.
Both dogs and cats (whether indoor only or not) should be vaccinated for rabies. If you think your animal may have recently been bitten by one of the animals listed above, it is important to follow up with your veterinarian to booster your pet’s rabies vaccine and keep them quarantined for 10-14 days to monitor for development of symptoms. If possible, keep the animal trapped and call Animal Control for them to collect the animal and send off for rabies testing.

Cheers to our next ✨Meet the Staff Monday✨

Sam is our lead receptionist and the work she puts in for both clinics is remarkable. Her smile and laugh immediately light up a room and her compassion and empathy keeps clients happy and coming back for more. We are so incredibly lucky to have such a gem on our team. 💎

This hazy air we are experiencing affects our animals just as much as it does us! For the next few days it is best to

⚠️ try to limit your pet’s outside exposure to short bathroom breaks, it is recommended to avoid long walks when the air quality is low.
⚠️monitor your animal after going outside. Call your veterinarian if you notice prolonged wheezing, watery eyes, decreased appetite, or lethargy
⚠️keep windows and doors closed and have internal circulation on. Implementing an air purifier may also be a good idea

🎇It’s almost that time of year, fireworks = a lot of anxious pets. We want to make sure all of your fur babies are comfortable over a weekend that has a lot of loud noises and spooky sounds. 🎇

Please reach out to either clinic PRIOR to July 3rd to receive anxiety medications such as Trazodone and Gabapentin for your pet. We do require 24 hours notice for medication refills so if you call on July 3rd we cannot guarantee that the prescription will be filled before the weekend
