Thanksgiving is full of delicious food… but not all of it is safe for our furry friends!
Hosting this year? Traveling? Furry guests included?
Make sure the pets stay safe around the holiday food — a little prevention goes a long way!
Here are top foods to avoid:
🦴 Turkey Bones & Fatty Skin
• Cooked bones can splinter → choking or bowel perforation
• Fatty skin/drippings can trigger pancreatitis
🧅 Stuffing (Onions, Garlic, Shallots, Leeks)
• Even small amounts can be toxic
🍇 Grapes & Raisins
• Found in salads, stuffing, baked goods
• Can cause acute kidney failure in dogs
🍫 Chocolate & Cocoa Desserts
• Toxic ingredients: theobromine + caffeine
• Can lead to seizures, arrhythmias, or worse
❌ Xylitol (Sugar-Free Sweetener)
• In sugar-free pies, baked goods, some peanut butter
• Causes severe hypoglycemia + liver failure
🍷 Alcohol & Raw Yeast Dough
• Ferments in the stomach → ethanol + gas
• Can cause bloat and alcohol poisoning
🌰 Macadamia Nuts
• Causes tremors, weakness, vomiting, fever
🧂 Turkey Brine, Ham Glaze, Salty Gravy
• High sodium → dehydration, vomiting, salt toxicity
🥧 Pumpkin Pie / Sweet Potato Casserole
• Sugar, butter, spices, marshmallow = no thanks
• ✅ Plain pumpkin or plain sweet potato is OK
🌽 Corn Cobs
• Not toxic, but very likely to cause obstruction
