Aloha, Maui-
With very heavy hearts, we have some difficult news to share.
After 53 years of serving Maui, our family has made the incredibly difficult decision to close The Pet Shop. Our story began in 1973 at Maui Mall, when our family opened the doors to a little pet store with a big love for animals and our Maui community. What started as a family business became so much more than a place to buy pet supplies. It became a place where friendships were made, stories were shared, and generations of families came through our doors with the pets they loved so dearly.
For 53 years, you have supported us, trusted us, and welcomed our family into your lives. Many of you have been customers for decades. We are forever grateful to an incredible staff who became family. Kamele, Alex, Kaleo, Archie, Jason, Tina, Karen, Teri….too many to name. Please know we love you all dearly.
That is what makes this goodbye so incredibly hard.
The decision to close comes after years of rising operating costs, a rapidly changing retail landscape and the growing impact of online shopping. And, most importantly, as our parents’ health has begun to fail, we have had to recognize that the time has come for our family to make this difficult change.
There is sadness in closing a business that has been such a huge part of our family’s identity for more than half a century. But there is also an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
