🐾❤️ An Important Update From Rustic Acres Pet Lodge ❤️🐾
We want to take a moment to share some important information with our Rustic Acres families.
Canine cough and upper respiratory illnesses have recently been seen in our area. We believe in keeping our clients informed and want to share what to watch for, along with the precautions we're taking to help keep everyone healthy.
As with any place dogs gather, we are staying especially watchful here at Rustic Acres.
🐶 A Little About Canine Cough
Canine cough, often referred to as an upper respiratory infection, is similar to the common cold in people. It can spread anywhere dogs come into contact with one another, including dog parks, veterinary offices, grooming salons, training classes, daycare, and boarding facilities.
Much like children attending school or daycare, dogs can pick up respiratory illnesses even when precautions are taken.
Dogs can also be contagious before showing symptoms, and even vaccinated dogs can become ill. The Bordetella vaccine helps protect against certain respiratory infections but does not prevent every illness.
👀 What Should You Watch For?
🐾 Coughing, hacking, or a honking sound
🐾 Sneezing or reverse sneezing
🐾 Runny nose or nasal discharge
🐾 Other unusual respiratory symptoms
Some dogs may continue eating, playing, and acting completely normal despite having symptoms.
🧼 What Are We Doing at Rustic Acres?
The health and well-being of every dog in our care is extremely important to us.
❤️ Continuing our thorough cleaning and disinfecting procedures throughout the facility.
❤️ Paying extra attention to kennels, play areas, bowls, toys, and frequently touched surfaces.
❤️ Closely monitoring our guests for any signs of illness.
❤️ Contacting owners promptly if we notice anything concerning.
❤️ Remaining vigilant and taking additional precautions as needed.
🐾 How Can You Help?
If your dog is experiencing coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, or any other signs of respiratory illness, please keep them home and contact your veterinarian.
If your dog has an upcoming reservation, please let us know about any symptoms before bringing them in.
For Our Lodging and Daycare Guests:
If a dog begins showing signs of a respiratory illness while in our care, we will contact their owner and ask that arrangements be made for pickup as soon as possible.
We understand this may be inconvenient, especially for families who are traveling, and we truly appreciate your understanding.
These precautions are to help protect all the furry friends who share our facility.
For our lodging guests, please make sure you have an emergency contact available who can pick up your dog if you're unable to do so.
Even something that seems like a minor cough can potentially spread to other dogs, so we appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our pups healthy!
