We have a tradition of doing toenails on Tuesdays around here. Why? Because itā€™s easy to to remember šŸ˜…

Making it a weekly habit means itā€™s a quick routine for all of them (including the client Corgi) and they never get long nails even if I forget one week.

My youngest daughter and I had such a great day at a fun match today!

I took Nanouk into Beginner Novice Obedience and Novice Rally. We didnā€™t get a qualifying score in obedience, but we did qualify in Rally and got 4th out of 4. šŸ˜‚

And I am SO proud of him. ā¤ļø

There was a time when I honestly didnā€™t think Nanouk would ever be able to go to a dog show because he used to be very reactive. It took him a while to settle in today, but overall he handled the whole experience incredibly well.

I truly donā€™t care if we ever win anything. For me, itā€™s about the journey and what training has made possible for him.

Dogs like Nanouk can so easily have their worlds get smaller and smaller. We avoid the busy places. We stop going certain places. We limit experiences because theyā€™re just too hard.

But with patience, time, training, and an understanding of your dogā€™s individual needs and triggers, sometimes that world can start opening back up again.

Today, Nanouk got to go to a dog show.

That means more to me than any ribbon ever could. ā¤ļø

I was getting ready to take Poppy out for some out-and-about training, feeling cute, and wanted a picture of my outfit. Instead, I accidentally captured a pretty perfect snapshot of my day-to-day work. šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

Just before this, I was doing a training session with all three dogs AND the cat, practicing being comfortable around the vacuum cleaner. šŸ¤£

Then it was time for Poppy to practice her skills out in the world. From vacuum cleaners to store outings, weā€™re learning how to navigate everyday life together. And occasionally getting a cute picture along the way. šŸ„°

Two months can make such a difference! Not only has Poppy grown physically, but mentally as well. ā¤ļø

Sheā€™s been coming to Day Training twice a week during that time, and weā€™ve been busy! Sheā€™s socialized with a variety of dogs, been shopping in three different stores, and worked on basic commands, potty training, appropriate play with cats, and learning how to settle. Sheā€™s also tackled plenty of obstacles while building confidence and everyday life skills!

Now sheā€™s training for her first Novice Rally competition! For Poppy, it isnā€™t about titles and winning. Itā€™s about giving her active body and mind healthy outlets, having fun together, and building a strong foundation in training and socialization that will support her throughout her life.

And, as you can see, her taste in sticks has grown right along with her. šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

Fun update, everyone! I went to pick up what I thought would be some cute, kitschy dĆ©cor for my grooming spaceā€¦and came home with a giant, double-sided sign! šŸ˜‚

Iā€™m planning to keep the nicer side exactly as it is, but the faded side is perfect for adding my own flair! Iā€™d love ideas for how to redesign and modernize it to match Happy House Hound and my quieter, dog-led approach to grooming.

Iā€™m open to suggestions! What would you do with it? I definitely want Happy House Hound on it, but beyond that Iā€™m open to whatever!

One of these is not like the otherā€¦

Jasmine was feeling a little concerned about the thunderstorm this morning, so I pulled out some indoor training activities to give her something positive to focus on. Nanouk joined in and before long Oreo decided to join. Apparently training sessions are open to all species. šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

Iā€™ve been experimenting with creative ways to keep dogs moving, thinking, and building confidence indoors using very little space or equipmentā€¦and I may be turning those ideas into something fun. šŸ‘€
