More Than Just Riding! 🐴❤️
These two kiddos work hard when they arrive for lessons—even when that means their lesson doesn’t involve sitting in the saddle!
Spending time with horses on the ground is a huge part of building a relationship. And honestly, it’s a lot like our relationships with people. Nobody wants to only spend time with you when you’re needed for something. Sometimes you just need to hang out, play, and enjoy each other’s company!
Horses are no different. Sometimes they don’t need to be ridden, trained, or asked to do anything. Sometimes they just want to “be” with you. ❤️
And that time together teaches kids so much. They learn patience, empathy, responsibility, communication, confidence, and how to earn trust—all while doing something they genuinely enjoy.
As a parent, you’re not just signing your child up for a riding lesson. You’re giving them an opportunity to slow down, unplug, work hard, care for something outside themselves, and develop a relationship built on trust and respect. Those are skills that go far beyond the barn.
I love watching my students play with the horses, love on them, and learn to enjoy them for more than just what they can do under saddle.
People often ask why my horses are so easy to catch in the pasture. This is why! They genuinely want to be with us. In fact, these two can walk out into the pasture and have the horses following them without a lead rope in sight. 🥰
There is something pretty special about watching my students build genuine relationships with these horses—and seeing the horses choose to be part of it, too.
Because at Lisa Westbrook Training Center, it really is More Than Just Riding. 🐴
