A lot of people know King Style Dog Resort today…but not everyone knows how it started. ❤️🐾
Years ago, we boarded one of our own dogs at a highly regarded facility here in Joplin while we traveled eight hours away. She became extremely stressed, stopped eating, developed bloody stools, and soiled herself.
We received no communication from the facility while this was happening. We were eventually told we needed to come get her and take her to a veterinarian.
We found that experience completely unacceptable.
We knew that if we ever had a place of our own, we would never want another family to feel that uninformed or a dog’s stress to go unnoticed.
King Style didn’t actually come along until years later.
Skylor had always wanted to work with animals, and a dear friend and mentor encouraged us to consider starting a dog business because of how crazy we are about dogs and because our property was a great fit for it.
At the time, we already had five dogs of our own…and Skylor and our daughter were always ready to add more. 😂
Tara was much more open to the idea of becoming the “doggy grandparents.”
We could love on and spoil everyone else’s dogs like they were part of our own family…and then send them home so their pet parents could keep paying their own vet bills. 😉
That encouragement helped turn the idea into a small side business.
What started small has grown into King Style Dog Resort, offering boarding, daycare, enrichment, grooming, and training. But no matter how much we’ve grown, the reason we started—and the way we care for dogs—has never changed.
From day one, we’ve wanted King Style to be the kind of place we would trust with our own dogs.
Our entire team is certified in pet first aid & CPR, dog behavior, dog body language, and dog group play.
Our mission is to provide a safe, structured, and enriched home-away-from-home where dogs are cared for like family.
Everything we do is rooted in love, gratitude, clear communication, and the standard of care we would expect for our own dogs.
