Happy Veterinary Technician Week!

This week, we’re celebrating the amazing veterinary technicians who help keep our patients happy, healthy, and loved.

From comforting nervous pets and caring for sick patients to assisting with procedures, running lab work, monitoring anesthesia, and supporting their humans through difficult moments, our techs wear so many hats every single day.

Veterinary medicine takes compassion, patience, teamwork, and a whole lot of heart. We are so thankful for the people who show up every day ready to advocate for the patients who can’t speak for themselves.

To our incredible tech team, thank you for all you do, the love you give, and the difference you make in the lives of our patients and their families. You are appreciated more than you know!

Help us celebrate our veterinary technicians this week! Give our team some love in the comments!

Happy Vet Tech Week from all of us at Academy Animal Hospital!

National Pet Obesity Awareness Day

Those puppy-dog eyes are hard to resist… but sometimes, a little extra love can show up on the scale!

Pet obesity is more than just a cosmetic concern. Extra weight can increase the risk of joint problems, diabetes, heart disease, and other health issues — and can ultimately affect your pet’s quality of life.

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference!

• Measure meals instead of guessing
• Keep treats to a small portion of their daily calories
• Make time for regular exercise and play
• Schedule routine weigh-ins
• Talk with your veterinarian about your pet’s ideal weight and nutrition needs

Every pet is different, and what’s a healthy weight for one may not be healthy for another. If you’re not sure where your pet falls on the scale, we’re always happy to help!

Healthy weight = more happy, active years together.

Give those pets some extra love today — maybe just a few fewer treats!

World Mental Health Day

Today, we’re taking a moment to recognize something that can sometimes get overlooked in veterinary medicine: the mental health of the people caring for the animals we love.

Veterinary medicine is rewarding, but it can also be incredibly demanding. Long days, difficult cases, emotional goodbyes, compassion fatigue, burnout, and the weight of caring so deeply can take a toll.

To our veterinary technicians, assistants, veterinarians, receptionists, kennel staff, and everyone who helps keep a veterinary hospital running — your mental health matters, too.

It’s okay to have a hard day.
It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to step away and take care of yourself.
And you don’t have to carry it all alone.

Let’s continue to look out for each other, give ourselves and our coworkers a little extra grace, and create a veterinary community where asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Take care of the people who take care of the pets.

Happy World Mental Health Day from all of us at Academy Animal Hospital.

Today’s Lunch & Learn brought us something exciting — we learned all about Phovia, a new approach to supporting wound healing using fluorescent light and a specialized gel to help increase the energy available to cells during the healing process.

Phovia can be used for a variety of wounds and skin conditions, and we’re excited to start slowly introducing this treatment into our everyday cases when appropriate.

And we couldn’t have asked for a better first test patient! Our sweet Mr. Trouble was the best little model for our first case and made learning all about this new treatment even more fun.

We’re always looking for new ways to learn, grow, and provide the best care possible for our patients. We’re excited to see where this new treatment can take us!
