We took out all they said they didn't like, didn't fit, or they never would wear.
Now we know what is needed to shop for.
This mom was so grateful that I did this with her kiddo instead of her. Taking all emotion out of it and I'm the neutral party that helps clear the space and be ready for this school year.

I get it....really.
I got to work with a teen boy this morning who was dreading this. Was defensive with mom about cleaning his room and ended up loving the process with me (without mom). He felt seen and heard.
Let me help them...really! You can go get your stuff done or rest. I'll take care of the space and your teen.

Dreading all those lunches to make during the school year?

Hint: have the kiddos make the lunches the night before. Mine make them before dinner is all cleaned up so I can check them and the kitchen can be cleaned up just once that night.

(They started this at age 4 and it is never too late to have them do it) Just have them practice making sandwiches now during summer and then have them add some fruit, veggies, snacks etc.

What's my house really like?
Is it tidy? Somewhat...yes, I have kids and we do live there and it looks like it.
Can I find things? Always, I can find things within a couple minutes.
Is it spotless? Oh no, we really live here. I have a very busy and active family that come and go all day and we all contribute to clean up...but reasonably.
Does is look like pinterest? No way! We are frugal and simple. We don't have a ton of stuff so it is easier to clean up and keep things organized.
Do I have a lot of amazing containers? Not really, I don't stock up on much so we don't need a lot of containers.
Do I have a bunch of systems to maintain? Yes, this is what I do have. I have calendars with expectations for chores around the house for everyone so we all know who is expected to cook, wash dishes, care for the cat, give rides to who etc. These evolve with the needs each year and work specifically with my family and the kids' skill levels each year.
Can I help your family work on systems? I would love to! I can take your family from where you are to where you want to be so not all the housework and mental load is on the mom and give responsibilities are spread out to all members, even little kids.
Hint: working on systems in the summer before school is key! It is harder to implement once the school year begins.
