Ever have one of those days when nothing went wrong, but nothing went quite right either? Well it was one of those days at the stable. After lessons we even had to have an “intervention” with Jennifer who was found in the office hugging the snack box. Tomorrow will be better girls!

Little girls and their ponies grow up together, one lesson at a time. A pony teaches patience on the hard days, confidence on the good days, and resilience on the muddy, tangled, pony-opinionated days in between. Somewhere between brushing dusty coats, learning balance in the saddle, and wiping away tears after a fall, young ladies begin to discover strength they did not know they had.

Ponies teach responsibility, kindness, work ethic, and the importance of earning trust instead of demanding it. They teach girls how to be gentle without being weak, determined without being harsh, and brave enough to climb back on after disappointment. Long before many little girls realize it, their ponies are quietly shaping them into capable, compassionate women with dirt on their boots and grit in their hearts.

Some of Nora’s students learning to do standing wraps. Make sure and watch for the happy dance at the end!

Standing wraps are used in horses to give the tendons and ligaments some extra support. They will also help prevent fluid build up (stocking up) in the lower limbs. They can be used after strenuous work, for trailering especially long distances, or during an injury when a horse is on stall rest. They can somewhat be compared to an “ace” bandage that we would use on ourselves except they are much more comfortable and skin friendly due to the first layer that is a “pillow wrap”. Like an ace bandage, too loose and they will not give any support. But too tight and they can impede blood flow.

For anyone that is going to be dealing with horses very much, this is definitely a skill worth learning.

Baby Sweets and Grandma Bea Update

Sweets has been off formula and nursing Bea for a little while now and he is thriving. Look how big he is getting. To say he is spoiled is an understatement but he is so cute. How can we help but spoil and love him.

He is 7 weeks old now, leading like a pro. Eating grass and hay, and starting to eat some grain. Love this little guy so much.

Speaking of mud!

Mr Bill had a wonderful time rolling in the mud last night it looks like. We are so happy for the rain though. The grass is already looking greener!

Pretty sure he is on Nora’s list for lessons today, so one of her students is going to have their work cut out for them before they ever even get to ride! The joy of horses!

Sinsey is never afraid to tell us what she thinks! From the mean looks, eye rolls, walking away when you go to catch her; the list goes on.

On top of that, she seems to say this ribbon blowing in front of me is ruining my nap. True kids horse, we could tie a grocery bag to her halter and turn on a fan and this mare would roll her eyes and go to sleep.

Sometimes we take these unicorns for granted. Blessed to be chosen to take care and watch over them daily.

Home from UT not with the answers we wanted but with hope nonetheless.

Dr Colla and the entire staff was wonderful and we appreciate him taking the time to answer the hundreds of questions we asked.

They primarily ruled out lots of potential diagnosis through physical exam, tests, and nerve blocks. Where we are now is basically back to a waiting game. Based on findings they feel the issue is distal to the hock and feel there is inflammation somewhere near or at the location of a nerve causing the problem.

So back on anti inflammatories twice a day, Magnawave therapy, and a little more time. She is way improved from where we started about 3 weeks ago so hopeful she hit her leg or twisted it playing too hard, and a little more time will fix everything.

But the waiting is the worse. 🫩

Heading to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital this morning with Cheyenne.

Since her injury she has been on anti inflammatories however we stopped those 2 days ago per the veterinarian request. Notice straight out of the stall she stepped different with that left hind leg but seemed to walk out of it.

Regardless, hoping to get some answers today. Prayers for Cheyenne.

We still have some car decals left. $15 each. Pick up in the office or we can ship these!

Hazel and Trisha have been having so much fun rolling the past few days. Especially love the little warning Hazel gives to the foals to back off.

Horses frequently roll for pleasure or pain. Their pleasure of course, not ours. How many of us have given them a bath just to put them out and the first thing they do is drop and roll. All of our hard work gone!

Horses will roll to scratch hard-to-reach itches, remove dried sweat, accelerate shedding, and apply a dirt coating for natural fly repellent. If it is repeated rolling however there is room for some anxiety as that could be a sigh of pain / colic being the biggest concern.

These guys have just been rolling around because the wet ground feels good. Glad they are reds, that mud doesn’t look as bad on them. 😂
