A Tribute to My Amazing Wife, Emily ❤️

There isn’t anything I’ve done that I’m as proud of as creating the “ Farm Your Way “ book. Putting nearly 20 years of farming experience in Oklahoma onto paper has been both challenging and rewarding. But the truth is, I couldn’t have done it without my amazing wife, Emily.

I’ve spent years gathering knowledge, learning lessons the hard way, making mistakes, finding better ways to do things, and scribbling down notes along the way. Turning all of that into a book that people can actually understand and use is an entirely different challenge. That’s where Emily came in.

She took my rambling notes, sorted through my thoughts, organized the information, and helped turn years of experience into something that others can learn from. She didn’t just help me put a book together, though. She taught herself the ins and outs of self-publishing, figured out what equipment we needed, and learned things neither of us knew when we started this journey.

And when our computer crashed and it seemed like the entire book had disappeared deep within its digital depths, she rolled up her sleeves and figured out how to diagnose the problem and retrieve the work we had poured so much time into. That alone says a lot about the kind of person she is.

Emily has a remarkable ability to teach herself new things, solve problems, and keep going when the answers aren’t obvious. Watching her take on these challenges has left me deeply impressed. I knew she was capable, but this project has given me an even greater appreciation for her determination, intelligence, patience, and dedication.

This book represents nearly two decades of my life, my work, and my passion for farming. But it also represents something else: the time, effort, and love that Emily poured into helping me bring this dream to life.

Emily, thank you for believing in this project, for helping me make sense of my years of notes, for solving problems I couldn’t solve myself, and for giving so much of yourself to something that means so much to me.

I am forever grateful for everything you’ve done to make Farm Your Way a reality. I hope you know how proud I am of you and how much I appreciate you.

This book is something I’ll always be proud of, but knowing what we accomplished together makes it even more special.

Thank you, Emily. You helped turn my years of farming into a legacy that others can learn from, and I will never forget that.

When most people hear the term CSA, they picture baskets of vegetables.

But agriculture grows more than food!

At Ruzycki Farms, flowers are part of our growing season, too. And just like vegetables, they require planning, preparation, patience, and a whole lot of care.

Long before a flower blooms, someone has selected its seeds, prepared its growing space, and carefully considered when to plant so there will be something beautiful to harvest.

And flowers have seasons of their own.

Some varieties prefer cooler weather. Others thrive in the Oklahoma summer heat. Some bloom over an extended period, while others have a shorter window.

That’s why a locally grown bouquet may look completely different from one week to the next.

And that’s part of what makes it special.

A flower CSA gives members the opportunity to experience those changing blooms throughout the growing season, while supporting the farmers who grow them.

For our 2027 season, Ruzycki Farms will offer flower-only memberships as well as memberships combining vegetables and flowers.

Because community-supported agriculture isn’t just about what we put on our dinner tables.

Sometimes, it’s about what we put in the middle of them.

Food nourishes us. Flowers remind us to enjoy the beauty growing around us.

Have you ever noticed how a farm’s harvest changes from one week to the next? That’s because not everything grows at the same pace, enjoys the same weather, or reaches maturity at the same time.

Here in Oklahoma, spring begins with crops that appreciate cooler growing conditions. Depending on what we’ve planted and how the season unfolds, those early harvests may include leafy greens, radishes, peas, and other cool-season vegetables.

As spring gives way to summer, the fields begin changing.

Squash, cucumbers, beans, and eventually tomatoes, peppers, okra, and purple hull peas become part of the picture as their growing conditions and maturity dates allow.

Some vegetables produce for weeks. Others have a relatively short harvest window. And some can be planted more than once to extend their availability.

Of course, Oklahoma weather likes to have the final say!

That’s the beauty of eating seasonally. You’re experiencing the growing season as it unfolds, rather than expecting the same selection every week.

At Ruzycki Farms, our CSA members choose from the fresh vegetables available during each Friday pickup. What they find will naturally change throughout our eight-week season.

And that’s something worth celebrating.

Why Join a CSA Before the Harvest?

Have you ever thought about how much happens on a farm before the first vegetable is ever picked?

Long before harvest season, farmers are ordering seeds, starting plants, preparing soil, installing irrigation, maintaining equipment, and making hundreds of decisions about what to grow.

And all of that happens before there’s anything to harvest.

That’s where Community Supported Agriculture comes in.

When someone joins a CSA before the growing season, they’re doing something a little different from shopping at a grocery store.

They’re helping make the harvest possible.

Their membership gives farmers resources to prepare for the season, while giving them a share of what the farm grows in return.

It’s a partnership built on trust, patience, and an understanding that farming doesn’t always follow a perfect schedule.

Some weeks bring an abundance of certain vegetables. Other weeks bring surprises. Weather, temperatures, rainfall, and even insects influence what makes it from the field to the table.

That’s part of eating seasonally.

At Ruzycki Farms, our members get to choose from the vegetables available each week, rather than receiving a predetermined box. We work to keep a good selection available throughout pickup.

And while no farmer can promise exactly what nature will provide, we can promise to put our knowledge, experience, and hard work into growing it.

🌱 GROWING TOGETHER: WHAT IS A CSA?

Have you ever wondered what it means to become a member of a local farm?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and it’s a beautiful idea rooted in something simple: a community and its farmers growing together.

Here’s how it works.

Before the growing season begins, community members purchase a share of a farm’s upcoming harvest. That early support helps farmers purchase seeds, prepare growing spaces, maintain equipment, and get everything ready long before the first vegetable is picked.

In return, members enjoy fresh, seasonal food grown right in their own community.

But there’s something even more meaningful happening.

A CSA creates a connection between the people who grow our food and the people who enjoy it.

Members experience the changing seasons through their harvests. They discover what’s growing, learn about unfamiliar vegetables, and see firsthand how weather, soil, and a little patience shape the food on their tables.

And farmers gain something equally valuable: the opportunity to plan their growing season with the support of the community they serve.

🌻 At Ruzycki Farms, we do things a little differently.

Rather than receiving a prepacked box of vegetables, our CSA members get to choose their favorites from the fresh, seasonal selection available each week, within their membership allowance.

Because we believe the food you take home should be food your family will actually enjoy.

Our 2027 CSA will run for eight weeks, June 4 through July 23, with Friday pickups from 4–7 PM at our farm porch store in Jones, Oklahoma.

We’ll have vegetable memberships, flower memberships, and combinations of both.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about how CSAs work, what grows in Oklahoma, how we plan our harvests, and what it really takes to bring food from our fields to your table.

Because understanding where your food comes from is part of the harvest, too.

Twenty springs of planting seeds and believing something wonderful might grow.

Twenty summers beneath the Oklahoma sun. Unpredictable weather, muddy boots, long days, beautiful harvests, and plenty of lessons learned the hard way.

We’ve planted seeds that never sprouted, watched storms undo months of work, celebrated unexpected successes, and had more than a few moments when we wondered what on earth we were doing. 😂

But we kept growing.

And somewhere along the way, we discovered that farming has a funny way of growing things you never planted.

Friendships. Traditions. Knowledge. Resilience. Community.

Some seasons gave us beautiful harvests. Others gave us valuable lessons. Every single one gave us a story worth telling.

And now, here we are, preparing for our 20th growing season! 🌱

It’s a little surreal looking back at where it all began and realizing just how much can grow from one little idea.

We’re feeling nostalgic, grateful, excited, and maybe just a tiny bit amazed that twenty seasons have passed.

And it has us wondering…

It’s that time of the year when we start developing new plans and fine tuning old ones. We want to offer the best options for our customers. That means asking them what they like, love or would change about what we offer and how they receive it. Starting with our CSA program.

CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a direct food distribution system where consumers buy seasonal "shares" or memberships upfront from a local farm or farm group in exchange for regular weekly or biweekly boxes of produce and farm goods.

How CSAs Work

🍅 Upfront Investment: Members pay the farmer before the growing season begins, providing essential early capital for seeds, equipment, and labor.

🥬 Regular pick ups: Throughout the harvest season (typically 8 to 20+ weeks), members receive periodic shares of what is currently fresh on the farm.
🥒 Shared Risk: Members share in the agricultural realities of the season—enjoying a bounty during great weather, or accepting lower yields and shared risk if weather or pests impact certain crops.

We put out a big white pumpkin and invited our community to dream a little. The question was simple: What possibilities do you see for our park and community?

Well, Jones… look what’s popping up in the park?!? @topfanslittle creativity, a little entrepreneurship, a little small-town magic, and a whole bunch of people who decided to turn their ideas into something real.

Some people bake. Some people grow. Some people craft. Some people make things you never even knew existed but suddenly can’t live without.
