I took the babies to work with me today to put a smile on everyone's face with a little "chicken xanax", and one thing everyone asked me is what colors are they going to be? And the short answer is, I don't know 😅 out of the polish eggs that hatched (3) we had 2 black chicks and one little grey one. The black ones have different markings as well, so I'm guessing they're all going to look a little different? I'm excited to find out as they grow!

#9 and #10 hatched out today, but sadly #9 didn't make it 😓 I did have to help it out of the shell, and the doctor I worked with said that if they aren't strong enough to break out by themselves they might not be strong enough to live or may have birth defects.

It's kind of a sad story about why I decided to pull the eggs from the broodies and move them inside. I did find one dead chick and a few broken egg shells, but more than that, I kept finding dead baby bunnies. I keep my rabbits and my chickens together in a colony in a 300 sqft space, have done for 3 years, and have never ever had an issue. And at first, I thought it was illness or weaning enteritis getting them. Until I saw the broodies attacking the babies with my very own eyes. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. So i decided to make some changes, and one of them was to take the eggs away and hope the hens break their broodiness and go back to normal. But I also separated all the young Kits into a separate area as well.
