Garlic is planted!! 🧄🧄

The bed was planted with an oat & pea cover crop. I w**d whacked the crop down and used my broadfork to dibble holes for the seed garlic. It made the planting process quick and easy!

🌶️🫑 Just finished my final pepper harvest of the 2026 season! It’s been a great pepper season for me, and I’m already planning which varieties I want to grow next season. Lunchbox, Carmens, and Mellow Star Shish*to are definitely being planted in 2027.

What varieties do you love/recommend? I’m not a fan of spicy (even jalapeños are too hot for me) so let me know your favorite sweet peppers. 🌶️ 🫑

🥶 FREEZE WATCH ISSUED FOR MUCH OF IOWA!

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for a large portion of Iowa from late Friday night through Saturday morning as some of the coldest temperatures of the season are expected to move into the region.

Temperatures could fall into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees across much of the state, with some locations in northeast Iowa potentially dropping as low as 27 degrees.

These temperatures could bring a widespread freeze, potentially damaging or killing sensitive vegetation and any remaining crops that have not been harvested. If you still have outdoor plants or flowers you want to keep around, now is the time to make plans to bring them indoors or provide protection. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could also be at risk.

A Freeze Watch means conditions are favorable for temperatures to fall below freezing, but the exact extent and severity of the freeze are still uncertain. The watch may be upgraded to a Freeze Warning as confidence increases.

Could today’s weather be any more beautiful! Now is a great time to get in your garden. Here are some things I’m working on today:

✅ Remove the shade cloth from our greenhouse
🪏Weeding walkways
🍓 Pulling unwanted strawberry runners
🌼 Removing spent marigold plants (they self seed like crazy so I like to pull them before the seeds drop everywhere?

I always love seeing this on my tomato plants!

No, I don’t love tomato horn worms, but I do love seeing parasitic wasps engulf and hornworms and killing them. One huge benefit of growing food organically is having a diverse ecosystem, and allowing Mother Nature to do her thing!
