Just a reminder of how it’s so important for your fur baby to be up to date on Rabies and Distemper vaccines before coming to their appointment for the safety of all other pets and your own!

Why Our Dog Area Is Temporarily Closed

The health and safety of every animal in our care is our highest priority.

Recently, we took in 13 dogs from a home that was under investigation for possible animal cruelty. Unfortunately, those dogs have been diagnosed with canine distemper virus, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease that can spread rapidly among unvaccinated dogs.

To protect the other dogs in our care, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our dog area to the public. During this time, every dog in the shelter is undergoing testing and is being closely monitored to ensure they remain healthy and safe.

We know this is disappointing for those hoping to visit or adopt, but these precautions are necessary to prevent the spread of this virus.

This situation is also a reminder of how incredibly important it is to keep your dogs vaccinated. Vaccination is the best defense against canine distemper and helps protect not only your own pets but also the dogs in our community.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we work through this situation. We will reopen the dog area as soon as it is safe to do so and will continue to keep everyone updated.

PSA to everyone:

If you call a groomer to book an appointment for your puppy and they tell you to wait till they are a year old before having their first cut, PLEASE take your dog somewhere else. I have had so many people recently been calling to book appointments for their puppies at 11 months to a year old for their first time appointments and they be matted, etc. It is recommended and I have always recommended to clients to start puppies as young as you can to help with getting them comfortable and used to it before they are too old and it’s too late and then their first grooming appointment turns into a bad experience cause they have to be shaved to the skin. Thank you😊
