PLEASE READ AND BE AWARE:
Histio Sarcoma clinical trial!!
All!! I can only speak for myself. When gut punched with the “carcinoma” diagnosis as I have been in the past, I knew what the “std” treatment protocols that were going to be suggested would be. I also knew I wouldn’t pursue for the same reasons many would not.
What I did do was research night and day for other potential therapies / options, especially clinical trials around the world - and to my absolute surprise, I thought I found hope as there was a clinical trial in an enrollment phase for the exact cancer diagnosed! He fit the enrollment criteria 100% and I’d have to take him to a University Vet training facility on the East Coast - in my mind, at that minute, I was already packing the car for a trip without hesitation!!!
Thus, being aware of clinical trials and how they are conducted, I knew to call the Lead Investigator the next morning. I shared my overwhelming hope and expressed I could arrive in days if they’d accept him into the clinical trial.
Then came the unexpected question(s) that weren’t transparent in the enrollment criteria… Is he a full breed! I responded, “100% yes he is!” Then, “Is he an Irish wolfhound?” I responded, “No, is that a problem or are you excluding Irish wolfhound’s for some reason?”
Crushingly, he said “No, but every other breed is excluded as this trial is only enrolling Irish Wolfhounds as the clinical trial grant was funded for this particular study drug by a specific donor!” He said, “keep checking over the next months as we are trying to expand it as enrollment is slow at this time!” Months, I thought?! I / he doesn’t have months!!!
Thus, I ran across this today! This clinical study does not appear to be “breed exclusive, even though funded by a Berner organization - thankfully!”Therefore, please share as someone may truly be in need of and is desperately trying to find options!!
***Attention!***
This is a very important research study. If any of our Florida Berner friends have a Berner diagnosed with Histio Sarcoma please check this research study out!
