Phanny has an announcement. Drum roll … tickets for the 2026 JHS Brunch & Auction are available at Nellie Bly and soon at Olsen’s, Clarkdale - $30 donation. Phanny wants you to know the theme of this year’s event is “Birds of a Feather” and he’s guarding this bird cage. Cages decorated by local artists will be a big part of the auction along with other lovely donated items. See you there - Sunday, 10/11 at the Honeymoon Cottage. Take the shuttle from Nellie. It’s gonna be great! Please share and tell your friends.

On this National Wildlife Day we celebrate Arizona’s abundant wild lands and animals. In the words of environmentalist Wendell Berry who died last week, “The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy … responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.” As we acknowledge our responsibility to our wild neighbors, it’s also important to make sure our pets are safe and protected. As the drought pushes more animals into our town, we understand our role in cherishing them. This week a beautiful bobcat was found dead in the gulch with no apparent injury. Though his brain was too decomposed to test, we understand that he could have had rabies or a spate of other diseases. Please make sure your pets are safe indoors and up to date on vaccines - and enjoy our wildlife at a distance. Thank you.

Tessa’s Maggie had to get a toenail trim. We were hoping to put it off since she’s 22 years old now, but she got a nail and toe stuck in her collar and couldn’t move. Aunt Teri offered comfort though Maggie handled herself well.
