In these tough economic times, we look for ways make a little bit of extra cash. Here is something I did many moons ago……. I had a very good client, one of those that was a full day of shoeing, nice barn, great place to work, & fine horses. One day I noticed the lady who was the owner, picking up hoof trimmings, and seemed to be studying them. She asked if I would consider collecting the hoof trimmings of all the horses I would be doing, and bring them to her at her next appointment in 4 weeks. Odd, but okay. Four weeks later I came and gave her bags of “ripe” trimmings. So, I asked “what are you going to do with them”? Well, apparently, since she raises orchids, she takes the trimmings, sanitizes & dries them, & then grinds them up! She said it made the best orchid food ever! Who knew??? She gave me a nice payout for that load. I did that for 6 months until she said enough was enough. So there ya go! Little bit of work, but it was kind of cool to do that and get paid, little stinky at times,L
