The Humane Society of Jefferson County improves the lives of animals in need through compassionate care, adoption, advocacy, and education, while inspiring humane communities built on kindness and respect for all. Since we usually post from home, we do not have up to the minute updates or the complete files of our animals. We do our best to answer any questions, but we encourage people to call (92

0-674-2048) or email ([email protected]) the shelter directly if you have questions regarding the status or the history of any of the shelter's animals for the most accurate answers.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? No, it’s Brody getting ready for Trunk or Treat!

Halloween will be here before we know it, so mark your calendars for HSJC’s Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 16th from 3:00–6:00 PM at W6127 Kiesling Road, Jefferson!

Kids are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes and trick-or-treat from creatively decorated trunks. This event is FREE and a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate Halloween! You may even get to say hello to some adoptable animals while you’re here. 🐾

Want to host a trunk? We’re looking for volunteers to decorate their vehicles, hand out candy, and join in on the fun! There’s no cost to host a trunk, you just provide the candy. Interested in hosting? Contact Madison at [email protected].

Update: Adopted!
Are you looking for a tiny cuddle buddy? Millie might be your girl! At just 7 pounds, Millie is a little lady who loves being close to her people.

She can take a little time to warm up to someone new, but once she knows you, her favorite place is right in your lap. Treats and ear scratches are definitely the way to her heart, and as far as Millie is concerned, there’s no such thing as too much attention. Millie has met both dogs and cats, but prefers dogs closer to her size, since bigger dogs can be a little intimidating when you’re only 7 pounds!

If Millie sounds like the perfect little companion for you, apply to adopt her today at hsjc-wis.com/dog-adoption-application!

If something at HSJC needs to be fixed, built, cleaned, moved, or made to look a little better, there’s a good chance David had something to do with it!

As our Custodian and Groundskeeper, David helps keep the shelter and grounds looking their best and tackles all kinds of handy work behind the scenes. 🔨

One of David’s favorite parts about working at HSJC is being surrounded by people who appreciate what he does, with the occasional puppy kiss as an added bonus.
Outside of work, David starts each morning with an hour of “me time” to work out and get ready for the day. After that, life stays pretty busy with his wife and four kids, who are involved in everything from FFA and music to plays and sports. At home, David has four male orange cats and one long-haired orange female. 🐈

And one thing his coworkers should probably keep in mind? If a mouse catches him by surprise, he admits he’ll “scream like a school girl.”

We’re grateful for everything David does to keep HSJC looking great and running smoothly!

We want YOU to volunteer at the Humane Society of Jefferson County! 🐾

We are in dire need of Bark Brigade and Kitty Crew volunteers, especially on weekends! These volunteers are a huge part of keeping our shelter running each day by cleaning animal spaces, walking dogs, socializing cats, and giving our animals some much-needed attention.

What better way to spend some of your free time than hanging out with cute fluffballs AND helping your community?

Once you apply, our Volunteer Coordinator will set up a tour of the shelter. From there, you'll complete an online orientation and receive hands-on training. Once you're trained, you can schedule yourself to volunteer whenever it works for you!

If you have some extra time on the weekends, we would love to have your help. ❤️

Apply to become an HSJC volunteer today: https://volunteer.bloomerang.co/volunteer/ #/join-party?k=w83m2n5wb0ik0n

Meet Echo, 💓

Echo is a big, beautiful girl who can be a little unsure when she first finds herself somewhere new. She usually needs a few days to get comfortable and figure things out, but once she settles in, she’s a total sweetheart.

Echo is friendly, affectionate, and pretty laid-back. She enjoys getting attention, especially pets and head scratches, and is happy just hanging out with her people. She’s looking for a home that will give her a little time to adjust and a comfortable place to relax. Once she settles in, you’ll get to see just how sweet this big girl really is.

Apply to adopt Echo today at https://hsjc-wis.com/cat-adoption-application/

A huge thank you to Forward Family Care, LLC in Lake Mills for their incredible generosity! Their group recently hosted a fundraiser and used the funds raised to purchase and donate items for pets in need at HSJC. These donations make a meaningful difference for the animals in our care, and we are so grateful for their support.

We were also happy to welcome the Forward Family Care group to the shelter to see where their donations are making an impact and, of course, spend some time meeting a few of our adoptable animals! 🐾

Thank you, Forward Family Care LLC, for thinking of our shelter pets and for your kindness and generosity. Our animals are lucky to have such wonderful support from our community!

Meet our guinea pigs, Derrick and Dilly! 🐹

These two have very different personalities, but they’re both sweet boys who have been waiting a while to find homes of their own.

Derrick is curious and likes to know what’s going on. Walk past his cage and he’ll often come right up to the edge to greet you and see what you’re up to. He doesn’t mind being handled, but he’s usually more interested in exploring and checking things out.

Dilly is a little more laid-back. You’ll often find him curled up under his blankets, perfectly content to nap the day away. He enjoys being handled and is always happy to settle in for some attention.

Derrick and Dilly are each looking for their own homes, and since they’ve been waiting a while, their adopters can name their own adoption fee! Apply to adopt one of them today at https://hsjc-wis.com/bird-small-adoption-application/
