Sasha's Hope and Rescue, Inc.

Sasha's Hope and Rescue, Inc. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer, foster home and donation based dog rescue located in Jasper, A We are often asked why we transport animals out of state.

Once Sasha's Hope commits to helping an animal, it is immediately moved to one of our approved foster homes if possible. Puppies are quarantined to avoid contamination of common areas with contagious disease such as parvo or coccidia. We have several dedicated and well equipped puppy fosters able to house multiple litters. We stress education and decontamination to keep our pups happy and healthy.

After two weeks, puppies are integrated into common areas while healthy adult dogs are immediately placed in the middle of family life. The purpose of a foster is for them to acclimate to living with other animals, children, teach manners and get a jump start on potty or crate training. The average time in a foster home before transport is 2-4 weeks. Simply, the laws are not on our side in Alabama. There are more stringent laws that support animal welfare in our partner states. Our mission at Sasha's Hope is to deworm and vaccinate, at a minimum, while we also provide any surgery or treatment required to enable them to move on to a larger rescue commitment. Providing minimum vetting and food while awaiting transport, we spend $20/animal on average. Though we have spent $570 on one senior beagle that had been left to die in a 3x3 crate. We partner with out of state rescues that are also foster based where each animal is spay/neutered and up to date on shots before being adopted to families that submit an application and have a home visit. We have worked with groups in FL, MN, MA, PA, WI and Ontario, Canada. In the very early morning hours, we meet fosters to pick up our babies and drive to Birmingham for them to catch a ride by van to one of several airports. We utilize a program called Pilots N Paws which involves pilots whom volunteer their time and planes to fly animals all over the US. We do place some of our adult dogs with local furever families on a case by case basis. We are always in need of more fosters, transporters and volunteers. All vetting, medication, food, etc. is provided for our fosters. Ask us how you can help! Adopt. Foster. Transport. Sponsor. Volunteer. Donate. Educate. PayPal address: [email protected]

Melissa Harbin Waid and Miriam Stephenson took our 4 box pups to meet transport in Birmingham yesterday morning. Miriam and I were up at 7AM this morning to take 5 pups to meet transport in Lincoln. This afternoon she will meet transport in Jasper with a litter of 2 and 5 pups in addition to 2 adults. Wednesday, Dora and her 9 pups leave on transport from Jacksonville.

-Our 4 box pups were found on the side of the road near Cordova by Merri Files and fostered by Lori Hyche Sahagun.
-Our 5 pups were found as strays with their mom near Adamsville by Lisa Harbin Mcdonald. Momma Lydia will join her pups when she is more confident and balanced. Right now, she's very scared and needs time to adjust. I didn't want to put that on another rescue to handle. Lisa's mom fostered them.
-Our other 5 pups are the ferals we hand caught in Jasper and Lori fostered. The 2 other pups were rescued and fostered by Roxanne Moon in West Jefferson. Megan Colburn and Judy Horton rescued and fostered the 2 adults in Oakman and Winston County.
-Gia Robinson and Sasha Rodriquez rescued and fostered our heartworm positive momma Dora + 9 from a burned out drug house in Anniston.

So many people were involved to save these 29 lives. Thanks to all of our supporters and donors who help make this possible everyday. THIS is what your donations do for Sasha's Hope!

About a month ago, I felt like I was rushing a sorority during Hell Week. Sasha's Hope members were running around crazy with people expecting the impossible. There were just too many in need. Miriam Stephenson and I were catching a litter of feral pups BY HAND in Jasper when Staci Boatfield contacted me from Heflin, Al. I knew her from FB but had never met or worked with her. She had picked up 2 small pups that were obviously sick. Of course, it was after hours so we had no choice but to use an emergency vet that cost $300 to walk through the doors. They tested positive for parvo. The staff sent them home with sub q fluids and Cerenia for nausea. Most people don't want to take on this around the clock responsibility but Staci didn't blink twice and even raised $365 towards their care. Thankfully, they both survived and had rescue commitment when they were cleared for transport. I finally got to meet everyone last weekend when Miriam and I drove transport. I'm so happy that these 2 will live the life that they deserve. Thank you for not turning a blind eye, Staci. How often can you actually say, "I saved 2 lives today!"
