OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM VON DER KING (VDK)
We are aware that questions have arisen regarding a K9 team associated with the Columbus Police Department (CPD), with some online searches and AI-generated responses identifying Von Der King (VDK) as the primary vendor for CPD
For clarification, while VDK provided two K9s and handler academies to CPD in 2025, the K9 team in question was not supplied by VDK, nor did the handler and dog complete training through any VDK academy. We have not independently confirmed the vendor responsible for the K9 Team in question. Furthermore, we have no direct familiarity with the handler involved.
We recognize the dedication and professionalism of the many handlers serving CPD, as well as the dedication and commitment of the supervisor who oversees its K9 program. We understand that challenging circumstances can affect an entire law enforcement community. Our thoughts and support are with CPD during this difficult time.
VDK remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and support for the law enforcement community. We believe it is important that information regarding our involvement be accurate and that our organization not be incorrectly associated with a K9 we did not supply or train.
