Clinic Update...
Our apologies for being so quiet here on Facebook, but as you can imagine we have been extremely busy getting the future spay/neuter clinic space ready and equipped.
We've had a few unexpected set-backs, but more importantly a few blessings that are helping us overcome them. However, these developments mean our timeline to begin services has changed. Here's a breakdown of what has happened and what to expect:
Some of our first hurdles were rotting interior walls that had to be torn down and replaced, then some plumbing issues, and just when we thought we had everything back on track we realized the task of cleaning and repainting the interior perimeter brick walls were beyond our capabilities if we wanted them completed within our lifetime. Luckily we were blessed with skilled volunteers and the assistance of inmate crews from the Jasper County Sheriff's Department to keep us going.
However, we recently faced with our biggest challenge yet when the air handling unit of the central HVAC system broke down. We brought in fans and a small portable AC, and struggled to carry on with painting and refinishing floors in the heat of summer but the conditions were understandably just too much for most of our volunteers, myself included.
Fortunately, we have business leaders who see the value in what we are trying to do for this community and they have offered their support and assistance. Billy Wilford, of Doug Wilford and Sons, Inc., donated a new air handling unit, which was just installed last week. And, the management team at Lowes Home Improvement just informed us that our organization has been selected for their Hometown Heroes award this year and they will be providing some of the equipment still needed and sending a team of professionals on the first of next month to help us get back on track.
Our timeline to begin services will be delayed, but not as much as they could have been without the preseverance and assistance previously mentioned. We will make a formal announcement once we are confident that all hurdles have been overcome, but tentatively expect to begin accepting appointment applications around October 15th with service dates to begin November. Services will offered one Saturday per month, which we hope to expand as we acquire more volunteer veterinary staff in the future. More details will be made available in the forthcoming formal announcement in a few weeks.
Thank you all for your continued support and patience.
