Just a reminder that Pinnacle Veterinary Services will be closed from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM tomorrow morning while we host the Best Friends Sanctuary Adoption Event! 🐾

✨ During this time:
🐱 No regular appointments
📞 No routine phone calls
💊 No medication or food pick-ups

If you call during the morning, please leave us a message and we’ll return your call as soon as we open tomorrow afternoon.

🚨 Our emergency line will remain open. If you have an emergency, please leave a detailed message and a member of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.

We’ll reopen for normal business hours from 1:00 PM–4:30 PM tomorrow afternoon.

🩺 Case of the Week 🩺

Sometimes one of the most important patients we see is one we can no longer save.

This week, we were asked to examine a spontaneously aborted fetus from a local herd. Anytime an abortion occurs, especially in livestock, it raises important questions: Why did it happen? Could it happen again? Is the rest of the herd at risk?

Many infectious diseases can cause abortion storms and spread rapidly through a herd, making prompt investigation critical. A necropsy (animal autopsy) allows us to look for signs of infectious disease, developmental abnormalities, toxins, and other potential causes. Identifying the reason behind a pregnancy loss can help protect the remaining animals and guide future breeding decisions.

In this particular case, the fetus was found to have multiple congenital defects. Based on the findings, these abnormalities are most consistent with a genetic mutation affecting development rather than an infectious disease process. The good news is that this means there is no indication of a contagious disease threatening the rest of the herd.

While pregnancy losses are always disappointing, cases like this highlight why diagnostic testing and necropsies are so valuable. They provide answers, help producers make informed decisions, and can offer peace of mind when there are concerns about herd health.

This sweet girl is searching for the perfect place to call home. 💕

She is estimated to be between 2–5 years old, is fully vaccinated, and has already been spayed, so she’s ready to go home today!

While she is very friendly, the busy clinic environment has been a little overwhelming for her, and she tends to be shy and scared here. We believe she would truly thrive in a quiet home where she can relax and build confidence at her own pace. She could also make a wonderful barn cat for someone looking for a friendly feline companion around their property.

With a little patience and love, we’re confident her sweet personality will shine through. 🐱❤️
