We're GMP certified! π€π½
Time flies and some pretty big things have been happening around here (like finally getting our cultivation license!), but we're stoked to share another huge milestone: Snowbelt is officially GMP certified as of June!
GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practices, which means proving that you don't just make a good product, you have systems in place to make it safely, consistently and traceably, every single time.
It's everything behind the product most people never see: sanitation, training, documentation, equipment, batch tracking, quality controls and the ability to trace a product through the entire process if something goes wrong. The amount of time we spend on this part is nuts π«
This was easily one of the hardest things we've ever done. We spent months preparing and even shut down production leading up to our audit so we could get completely dialed in.
We got our processing license almost a year before making it to market because we were starting from scratch. We didn't move into a shiny, ready-to-go facility with fancy equipment. We built ours ourselves as resourcefully as possible. We started with what we had and figured out how to make it work.
But we didn't just build the physical lab. We built the processes, the systems and everything that goes on behind the scenes from scratch too. GMP gave us the chance to prove that what we built and how we operate inside of it, actually meets a real manufacturing standard.
Getting through GMP took just about everything out of us including our bank account, but we scored a 97% ππ½ Walking away with that score after building this whole thing ourselves was pretty damn validating. And we're really f*cking proud of it!
This industry is a struggle for small operators in general, and GMP is another level on top of it. Becoming certified is a huge accomplishment for anyone, but for a tiny team that built this from the ground up, it feels especially wild. Huge shoutout to my brother Dan, our veteran partner, who uses whatever extra free time he has to help us out and this audit was no exception. We're grateful for Dan the man!
We're incredibly thankful for our awesome friend the Lorax for all his help and guidance with GMP, the BLOOM ROC team, other processors who shared their experiences, and all the friends who've lent us their time, skills and knowledge along the way.
Brick by brick. SOP by SOP. Batch by batch.
And if you're another small processor getting ready for GMP, reach out. We're happy to share what we learned!
