As we only just passed the 25th anniversary of 9/11, let us remember our promise to “never forget” and listen to the stories of the heroes who put everything on the line for our country. All proceeds go to Warrior ranch Foundation, which provides equine therapy through rescued horses to our veterans and first responders, with an emphasis on those with PTS.

In the early spring I took in 2 barn cats from the Golden Paws Society. They are an amazing organization that goes to kill shelters and picks up cats whose time are running out, brings them to their lovely facility with the hopes of finding them forever homes. I am head over heels in love with the two barn cats I adopted from them. Today they let me know about this beautiful cat, Julian, who has suffered a lot of trauma, shows a big interest in living outside, and is need of a soft place to land away from other cats. We are only a little more than a week away. Pick your table and buy your tickets today at thesuffolk.org. Meet an American hero, taste award winning bourbon, receive an autographed bottle, and help out veterans and first responders. All proceeds go to the Warrior Ranch Foundation of Calverton, a non- profit that provides equine therapy with rescued horses to our veterans and first responders, with an emphasis on those with PTS.

You don’t need to be a kid, just a kid at heart, to want donkeys at your birthday party! 💕 🎉 The Pasta Babies, Rigatoni and Fettuccine, spread some birthday cheer to a wonderful young woman turning 70 today in Greenport! The people were all smiles and the donkeys soaked up all the attention. They are very affectionate animals. Thunder Road Stables is now offering parties with the donkeys both at our farm or other locations. Details to follow soon!

The Horse of the Month of October is the oh so handsome, Rio!! When asked about Rio, his owner, Francesca Russolillo replied,

“Rio has been part of my life for 24 years. I was 13 when I got him and he was only 3, so we really grew up together. When my trainer first found him, he was standing in a paddock identified only by the number 4, which happens to be my mom’s and my lucky number. When they took his friends out of the paddock, Rio jumped the fence to get back to them. My trainer looked at my mom and said, “That’s your horse.” And she was right. ❤️

We spent many years together doing dressage, and some of my favorite memories are waking up early with my mom on show mornings, getting to the barn, braiding and grooming Rio, and getting him ready for the day. He always looked so beautiful, and he loved to show off. He was always coming home with a ribbon! Those days with Rio and my mom are memories I’ll always treasure.

Rio has been loved by so many people throughout his life. Now, at 27, he’s retired and still happiest exactly where he was when we first found him… outside in the field with his friends, living his best life. 💙”

To all my Long Island/NYC followers, please consider joining me as my friend, Bob Pennington, presents Wh***ey and War Stories at The Suffolk in Riverhead on October 15th. Bob is a friend of mine and was one of the first 12 Special Ops to be deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. The 12 "Horse Soldiers" as the became known as, fought along allied troops on horseback through the mountainous terrain, and against all odds, defeated the Taliban stronghold in that region.
Upon returning safely to the US, the 12 Horse Soldiers started the award winning Horse Soldier Bourbon company. The major motion film, "12 Strong" is based on his experience. Come here his tale of riding in wooden saddles up mountains, here his harrowing story of what it was like to be dropped in a foreign land and handed a horse to fight off of, and taste his amazing wh***ey bourbon! All guests go home with an autographed bottle.
Tickets available at Thesuffolk.org. All proceeds go to benefit The Warrior Ranch Foundation, a non/profit in Calverton that rescues horses and provides equine therapy to veterans and first responders, with an emphasis on those with PTS.

How the barn cats are dealing with the not so impressive (yet) Nor’ Easter we are getting on the island today…Liam and Jade are riding out the storm together and like loyal soldiers, refuse to give up their guard post (aka- the feeding station), while Max gave up his usual horse herding antics (he seriously follows me into the fields to help wrangle horses) and decided it was best to be reassigned to desk duty and keep his human company in the farmhouse office today.
