With the Fourth of July right around the corner, I wanted to offer a little advice as a professional dog trainer.
If your dog struggles with fireworks, thunder, or other loud, unexpected noises, don’t wait until the next holiday to seek help. A qualified trainer can work with you on desensitization and confidence-building exercises to help your dog become more comfortable over time. Just as importantly, they can teach you how to respond appropriately when your dog becomes frightened so you don’t unintentionally reinforce the fear.
There are many excellent trainers in our community who would be happy to help—myself included. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July, and hoping all of our four-legged friends stay as calm and comfortable as possible.
