This is an appreciation post for my girl Freyja and the Dutch Shepherd breed 🐺🖤
Last night I was in the garage, just spending some quiet time with the dogs. Life is a little hectic right now—we’re preparing for our son to be born any day 👶🏼—and moments like that are rare. Freyja was right by my side, relaxed but present.
Then a car pulled up across the street. Beat up, out of place, and just… off 🚗⚠️
Before I could even process it, Freyja did. The vehicle parked and a young man started walking toward the house. I immediately called Freyja to my side. Her posture changed instantly—hackles up, deep defensive bark, low growl, teeth shown. Not frantic. Not reckless. Clear, controlled, and intentional 💪🐾
The man noticed her. Then he heard the other dogs alerting from the property. He stopped and said, “I’ll wait here.”
I put Freyja in a down-stay and approached him. Her eyes never left me, and every so often she reminded him she was there 👀🛡️. Turns out he was lost with no signal. I let him use my hotspot to make a call and sent him on his way 📱.
Thankfully, it was nothing more than that—and I’m grateful it stayed that way 🙏.
But moments like this are exactly why we choose guardian breeds.
Why we emphasize stable genetics, strong nerves, and real training.
Why protection dogs are about awareness, deterrence, and control—not chaos.
Freyja recognized a change in her environment. She felt my uneasiness and immediately responded. She alerted, stayed clear-headed, listened under pressure, and remained loyal to her position and handler. That doesn’t happen by accident 🎯🐕
A firearm can be taken and used against you.
My dogs cannot.
The peace of mind that comes from knowing your dog is bonded, trained, and ready—without being reckless—is priceless 🧠🔒. Freyja stayed glued to my side the rest of the night, alert and watchful.
She earned every bit of that steak she’s getting for dinner 🥩🔥
This is why we train.
This is why we do the work.
This is why guardian dogs matter 🛡️🐺
