🐾 BEHIND THE SCENES AT ADOPTION FIRST! 🐾

Everyone’s favorite kind of post is back! 👀📸 We didn’t capture quite as many pictures this time around, but what we lacked in quantity, we DEFINITELY made up for in quality. 😂❤️

From our surgical team hard at work, to a little pre-op love, some very patient pups waiting their turn… and THREE orange boys who apparently had the most exhausting day of their entire lives. 🍊🐱💤

Seriously. The post-op sleeping positions. Not a single care in the world. 😂

These are the little moments that happen behind the scenes every day—caring for your pets, keeping them safe and comfortable, sneaking in some extra love whenever we can, and occasionally stopping everything because somebody is being entirely too cute. 🥹🐾

👀 And speaking of those handsome orange boys… keep an eye on the Adoption First Animal Rescue website! These cuties will be ones to watch for as they get ready for their next chapter. 🧡🧡🧡

We may be a little biased, but we think we have a pretty great view from behind the scenes. ❤️🐾

🐾 Okay pet parents, settle a debate for us…

Your pet understands ONE sentence perfectly.

Not “sit.” Not “stay.” We mean the phrase that causes an immediate, dramatic reaction every single time. 😂

Is it…

“Do you wanna go for a ride?” 🚗
“Who wants a treat?” 👀
“Where’s your ball?” 🎾
“Get DOWN.” 😑
“What do you have in your mouth?!” 🚨
Or something completely specific to your household?

What sentence does your pet know a little TOO well? 😂👇

Bonus points if we can tell exactly what happens when you say it. 🐾❤️

🐾 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: Practice Makes… a Happier Vet Visit! 🩺❤️

Did you know you can help prepare your pet for veterinary visits right at home?

A lot of the things we do during a routine exam can feel pretty strange if your pet has never experienced them before. A little practice at home can help make those things feel much more normal when it’s time for an appointment!

🐾 Touch those toes!
Gently handle their paws, touch between their toes, and briefly hold each foot. This can make nail trims and paw checks much less intimidating.

🦷 Take a peek at those teeth!
Practice gently lifting their lips and briefly looking inside their mouth so having their teeth and gums examined isn’t such a strange experience.

👂 Don’t forget the ears!
Gently touch and lift their ears from time to time to get them comfortable with having their ears examined.

🐕 Practice leash manners.
Getting comfortable walking on a leash and being handled while leashed can make arriving at the clinic and moving through an appointment much easier.

🐱 Make the carrier a normal place!
Don’t let the carrier only appear when it’s time for the vet! Leave it out at home with a blanket, treats, or favorite toy so it becomes a familiar, safe space instead of an immediate 🚨 RED FLAG. 😂

🤲 Practice gentle handling.
Get them accustomed to being touched along their legs, belly, chest, back, and tail. Pair it with praise or treats so handling becomes a positive experience.

The goal isn’t to turn your pet into the perfect patient. ❤️ It’s simply to make unfamiliar handling a little more familiar before they’re in a new environment with new people.

A few minutes of positive practice at home can help make future vet visits less stressful for your pet—and a whole lot easier for everyone involved! 🐾🥰

What does YOUR pet think of going to the vet?
😍 Loves us
😐 Tolerates us
🙄 Deeply suspicious
🚨 ABSOLUTELY NOT. 😂

🐾 TUESDAY QUESTION: What’s the weirdest thing your pet is obsessed with? 😂

Not their favorite toy. We’re talking about the completely random thing they have decided is the greatest treasure on Earth.

🧦 A specific sock?
📦 An Amazon box that should’ve been thrown away three weeks ago?
🧊 Ice cubes?
🚿 Watching you shower like a tiny creep?
🥬 A vegetable they have absolutely no business being excited about?

We KNOW your pets are weird. 👀😂

👇 Tell us their strangest obsession in the comments—and bonus points if you have photographic evidence!

🐾 **THINGS THAT ARE PERFECTLY NORMAL TO SAY AT A VET CLINIC…**

…but would get you some VERY concerned looks anywhere else. 😂

A few things you might hear around our clinic on any given day:

🗣️ “Has anybody seen the testicles?”

🗣️ “Who has the spicy orange cat?”

🗣️ “PLEASE stop licking that.”

🗣️ “Is that poop… or something else?”

🗣️ “Good news! He peed!” 🎉

🗣️ “Can somebody grab me a cone?”

🗣️ “Ma’am, your child is trying to climb the wall.”
*The child in question:* 🐈

🗣️ “Who belongs to this carrier?!”

And somehow… none of us even blink anymore. 😂

**Pet parents:** What's the strangest sentence you've ever heard come out of a veterinary professional's mouth?

🩺🐾 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: What Can Bloodwork Tell Us?

Your pet may look perfectly healthy on the outside—but bloodwork can help give us a look at what’s happening on the inside. ❤️

Routine wellness blood panels can provide valuable information about your pet’s overall health and may help identify changes before obvious symptoms appear.

🩸 Depending on the panel, bloodwork can help evaluate things like:
• Kidney and liver function
• Blood sugar
• Red and white blood cells
• Platelets
• Electrolytes
• And more!

✨ NEW AT ADOPTION FIRST!

We are now offering send-out bloodwork for our patients! Different panels are available depending on your pet’s needs, so pricing will vary based on the type of bloodwork being sent out.

🐶🐱 Think your pet could benefit from a wellness blood panel?

Ask one of our technicians about bloodwork during your next appointment!

Sometimes “they seem fine” is exactly when wellness screening can be most valuable.
